I don't remember that much from the time Obito was going around calling himself Madara.

It always bugged me that they didn't really questioned it and actually called him Madara. I don't know why Kisame thought he was madara even when Obito showed him his face. No one bothered to ask " why the hell are you wearing that mask" or ask him for proof. Not even Sasuke questioned it or threatened Obito to see his face if he really was Madara. Just weird, some random guy who we thought was dead was going around calling himself a guy who was dead...

I believe it was mostly because of what Obito was capable of doing which was subduing a Perfect Jin with just mere Genjutsu. Kakashi and the others also began to believe Obito to be Madara once they realized that he was capable of summoning Kurama and was as powerful as Minato said he was.

therfore it is highly likley he took on the form of madara to fool people

Yeah it's not like transformation jutsu lets you look like somebody else. It's not like they didn't cover that in part 1 at the chunin exam and when Naruto impersonated Sasuke.
