Why is Obito a good character

Don't actually think that but look how easy it is. :') I think Obito suffers from awkward wording when exploring his motive in the manga ffor the first time but it's clear as day how it wasn't him being 'friendzoned' and rather using Rin as an example of the injustice of their world. I really don't think he has to be given as OTT comical motivation as Madara as Sasuke to be considered relevant.

His motives are more than justified. He wasn't a kid that had a lot in the first place, it's not surprising that anybody wronged by the Shinobi system would take action for realising 'the bigger picture'. Plus his psychological and physical undoing by Kishimoto is genius, IMO the strongest narrative moment for this manga.

I also can't call Obito's psychological struggle even good. From the moment he took off the mask he simply repeated the same things, he was practically begging to be converted. Ppl that are that easy to read are just annoying becuz it's feel like the author is just stalling.

And yeah if you are going to turn against the world a better motivation definitely would have helped
