Feel free to disagree or agree with but I would like to say since there has not been any new canon content in the anime, the storm 4 did depict Obito's character better than the manga. I'll try to keep this brief.
Why is Obito Uchiha a good character? Obito represents Humanity. Humanity that eventually becomes secluded. Someone who was immersed in reality only for it to break him like many even the real world.
He embodies voidness though becomes a cup or vessel that gets filled once again.
Obito is like beads in a string and Obito represents Humanity in real life (you) and I'll explain why. Obito was once a vivid chain of beads that eventually slowly loosens, the beads themselves become tainted and rust which open cracks. The string loosens so much that the beads fall and shatter though only a single minuscule shattered piece remains.
This means Obito grew up an orphan not knowing parents (you know there are some holes/cracks to him) but he still strives though and strives in life. He had to know and experience war as a child but had too leaves his friends behind.
And let me give you a biology lessons and its fact. Men's (well Obito was a kid) biggest weakness is woman so woman can break a man or things along those lines + that with Uchiha biology of love than you have a train wreck just waiting for you.
What I meant by Obito representing Humanity was that people get to know the harshness of reality and Obito through Rin was immersed in it despite how temporary plus if you factor about biology, Obito experienced the lost of a loved one like many. Which signifies how much of a 'hell' the world is. Someone people like to drown themselves in alcohol, drugs or whatever but at the end of the day, you'll have to face that problem again and Obito wanted to drown himself in a dream and be happy for eternity.
Your problems; drowning yourself be it alcohol or whatever, it can be like a root that slowly grows into a tree and Obito for years wanted to escape reality and desperately be loved and noticed; Obito was a very Human character.
Naruto was standing up against reality and that affected Obito.
