It's made Itachi look pretty d*ckish...

Itachi watches first friend get murdered by Masked Man.

Proceeds to ask Masked Man to help him years later.

That said, it is a filler and Itachi is one of my favourite characters so it's no biggie.

What was Itachi going to do to the masked man at his age. If anything Itachi is still a pacifist at heart and seeing one friend die probavly triggered his trauma of war from when he was younger. It's as if you don't know Itachi's character at all...

Maybe you'd care to re-read my post? I never even suggested that Itachi should, or could've or done anything. What I'm talking about is Itachi asking the same guy who murdered his first friend to help him.

No, it doesn't.

In the novels, it explicitly states he chose Tobi because a) Tobi was an evil guy, thus he would have no major problem agreeing to a massacre and b) It would let him join Akatsuki and just keep his eye on them as this moment is the first of many which affirms to Itachi that Tobi must be watched (even if he's not strong enough to stop him).

He really hates Tobi. But he basically put it aside for his mission.

Actually you explicitly said that him standing there doing nothing made him look dickish right before that help line meaning it went along with it. Which feeds the assumption that you believe he could've done anything. On a further note, Itachi would not have the mental capacity to murder all his clan members so asking Obito was most likely more logical than asking someone like Danzo. Now if you saud it was ironic then sure that's agreeable but everyone knows why he asked Obito it wouldn't necessarily make him dickish. The character of Itachi was all about sacrifice, I'm sure it wasn't wasy on itachi anyway to ask Obito. Also when you consider the fact that Obito was on his way to murder a great deal of Konoha anyway because that trigger finger has been itching for years Itachi merely offered the uchiha. So it makes sense

It was for the sake of his brother that he had to form a truce with Tobi. To protect someone you love, you aren't going to look at him as an old enemy but instead get help in any way possible.

Itachi already acknowledged death as a reality at a young age. He simply moved on with his life with his top priority being to protect his clan and its name.

The filler isn't as terrible as previous ones because it's based on the itachi novel iirc. while previous ones came from SP's "idea machine"...

Obito didn't plan that. In the novels, he did that for the lolz. xD

well he's right you actually are reading it incorrectly...

It is meant to be read as

Step 1: Obito kiills friend
Step 2: Itachi asked him for help
Step 3: therefore, Itachi is being a dck

but as pointed out already there are reasonable explanations for it.

My question here is could they have ran? Would obitos blood lust have been suficed with the already killed enemy or would he have chased them down until one or both were dead? Clearly him dying was his choice in protecting itachi and "paying" him back pride my friend was his downfall.

You don't get it. That was his hit point in his life, that really messed him up mentally. It's also continuing when everybody in his clan keeps saying that what they do is for the clan. Again he's younger then narutos age group when he was genin so of course if it's not seeing war then seeing your friend die in front of you well get to you(I know, he later asks obito to help him out) but again that messed him up so he's messed up in the mind so he sees and thinks everything different now. Basically he lost all hope in humanity.Come on man don't be a derrrrss?

No, I didn't. I explicitly said that Itachi looked dickish for using the same guy who murdered his friend. What part of "proceeds to ask Masksd Man years later" is hard to understand?

That doesn't support his case, it makes him look even worse. By saying that essentially means he's portrayed as someone who values convenience over his morals and principles.

The difference between choosing what's right and what's easy. Total BS since that's not Itachi at all.

I guess you never heard the saying keep your friends close and your enemies closer. Plus itachi wasn't able to kill the entire Uchiha clan by himself, he needed help from someone powerful. Since he caught Obito sneaking in and out of the village and he knew he was strong, he asked for help. Then turned around and asked hiruzen to keep and eye on him.
