183cm and 24 years old. I only have a couple extra years before my height stays where it is.

For anybody who wishes they were taller, you got til age 26 before your epiphyseal plates fuse :)

I guess average height in my city would be 1.75 - 1.85 cm ( males )

Is physical activity related to growing taller? Like if I stretch my spine often and work out more? Even yoga maybe?

I know I look like a hypocrite since I told OP to try to be happy with his height. I'm happy being 5'9", but I too wouldn't mind growing a couple more inches.

I thought height growth stopped between 18-20?

Fusion of the epiphyseal plates vary depending on genetics, but there's still room left for you to grow if you're still in your teens. Unless I'm mistaken, the average age is around 26.

I don't believe so, but don't take my word for it on this one. The state of growing is about cell division, the epiphyseal plates fusing to bone, and Growth Hormone influencing the positive feedback loop that grows your limbs. I'm not sure if physical activity actually helps in making someone taller, but I wouldn't be surprised if it plays a role.

Height can change throughout your life in both ways, depending on your age, on the condition of your spine, the amount of somatotropin (aka human growth hormone) your body produces/receives exogenously, your regimen and many other minor factors. Of course you wouldn't be able to become like 10 inches higher, but 1 to 1.5 more inches is fairly reachable.

You won't be able to break your potential genetic limit, though, so if you've already reached it (in this case you're supposed to be in a nearly perfect physical shape) then no, it's most likely impossible.

I saw a lot of threads on sports and medical forums related to this topic, some of them were positive about it. But I still consider it to be nothing but a self-belief. IMO, the best it could give is keeping your spine/backbone clean-limbed.

I have a friend who's playing basketball since he was 6. Guess what? His height is still at 1.68 cm. Genes play a significantly bigger role in this case.

^^ Or what Lonely said. He seems to know more.

Would I be considered short, average or tall ?

180cm 21 year old male......

well that depends on your region/country I guess.....By European or American standards you will definitely fall in short list...Asian average because even in Asia the average height varies from country to country...here is a link I dunno how accurate it is but you can still get a rough idea...

I'll take your word for it because I am well aware of the significance of genes. Welp! I'll remain grateful for the ones I have.
Just an average dude with an average height. I'll take that.
Thanks

Very well. I'll focus on the things about myself that I can, forsure, change. Things that genes have little-to-nothing to do with. Thanks for teaching me something new!

Sheesh. Where did you learn this stuff? I'd better diversify my reading.
But anyway, in this case, I'll be pessimistic and assume that physical activity doesn't play a role. Therefore, if I find myself a few inches taller suddenly one day, then I'd be pretty damn pleased. If not, then I'll keep rockin' my 5'9" stature.
Thanks

Junior-level College Physiology, but you can also read about those things if you don't mind the articles throwing every kind of scientific jargon at you at once lol. That's why I like learning in College--they teach the classes based on the classes you've already learned, not by assuming you're already a distinguished scientist.

I see well I'm 20, guess it depends on my genes. I know I'm certainly taller than when I was 18.

Most people are fully grown at 20, especially women. The 26 age is when an average man's bones stop fusing, but that does not imply they grow until then.

I'm 26 and 6' 4". I grew substantially between junior year in high school (16-17) until I was a junior in college (20-21). I continued to grow until I was 24. However, I was a late bloomer and I was far from average in terms of how long I grew for. Again, most men are fully grown at 20. The fusion of plates mostly refers to plates in the skull, unrelated to overall height.

Answer this: do you think that basketball players are tall because they play basket, or they play basket because they're tall?
