Itachi's weapons are spiritual which in our common language means that they belong in the realm of the spirits.

For Itachi's weapons to be seen in the realm of the living this means they need to take shape. In the manga we've seen these weapons taking shape through chakra with Itachi's Susanoo'. This right here means that the weapons are no longer 100% spiritual and they have a % of physical form through chakra.

People kept accepting the idea that if the weapons are spiritual they keep their spiritual status in the physical world.
