Few pointers before I dive into the topic:
1.) This is not a Kakashi vs Itachi thread.
2.) It is not a comparison thread(well, to a certain degree but not slandering one character to make another appear great).
3.) If you want to comment the overused and repetitive NB posts like "x solos, y solos" do it somewhere else.
Without another further due let's go!
shino:
The similarity I found between the two of them got me thinking more about Kakashi's character during a certain point of time(before war arc). Before I make this point about Kakashi, let's look at Itachi first so things would be more clearer later on.
When Itachi was brought back Edo Tensai, a few things happened in order for his character to be complete. The main focal point was he admitted to his faults and not approaching the problem(s) a different way in order for everyone(including the Uchiha) to be happy and stable. Itachi did everything he could after his death to nullify his mistakes he made when he was alive and stopped trying to control his brother's actions. Some things were out of hand of Itachi, which is understandable to why some of his decisions seemed bizarre or wrong.
Kakashi was revived back after the Pain arc, he admitted in the Kage Summit arc that because of his lack of input as a sensei it drove team 7 apart and all of them were suffering because of his neglect. Like Itachi, not all of it was Kakashi's fault since Sasuke and Naruto already had unstable backgrounds, Sakura a typical teenage girl that had an obsession with another member, which he couldn't relate to(in terms of being a girl and worrying about girl stuff). Despite, some of his massive holes as a character he again addressed his mistakes as a mentor in the war arc and even when Sasuke decided to go against his team Kakashi still rooted in Sakura's favour on how much she cared about him.
Initially, I was not sure if he his character was complete like Itachi's but I do believe that some of these points kind of balanced out his plothole actions(PS, Kamui spamming, Raikiri spamming and at the end of part 1 Naruto Kakashi still did not know what kind of person Sasuke was in order for him to approach this issue in a sensible way). So that is my take on Kakashi as an overall character, he is not as awful as some claim him to be, but yes like most characters there are room for improvements.
