Is Naruto the new DBZ?

With Super being absolute sewage, is Naruto the new mainstream anime to dethrone DBZ at least in the United States? While The Last was only average Boruto set up an interesting and dynamic new generation. Battle of Gods and Return of Frieza made no sense, were full of lame cringe worthy humor, and lacked any sort of suspense or lasting excitement, Super just continues to be irredeemable garbage on all fronts especially animation.

Naruto has plenty of new exciting stuff on the horizon notably the Boruto manga which will most likely spawn a new anime franchise with the cast now adults with children, and it's being written by the author of Gaara Hiden which was actually a great short story with plenty of blood killing action and complex nuances regarding the workings of the political ninja world. With all that going for it it can't possibly be as awful as Super and its bullshit.

Not to mention the new Naruto filler with Itachi is dark and gritty as ****, dealing with existentialism, suicide, genocide, war, among other things. Hell they're going to show Itachi's relationship with his girlfriend that he murders later on along with the rest of his family and friends, if that isn't dark idk what is. Unlike Super which is seemingly intended for children under the age of 6 and has no blood or edge whatsoever.

Not like having actually violence and dark themes is nessesary for a good story, but it defiantly made the villains a lot scarier and more exciting in DBZ when they did messed up sadistic shit to freak us out. Super can't evoke those emotions since there's too much comic relief and goofiness replacing what was once a show that balanced seriousness with light heartedness really well, now it's just an unfunny joke that should have never been rebooted.

Imo Naruto has a brighter more interesting future that anime fans will be able to take seriously compared to our old friend DBZ.

The thing is, With DB super we still have the same beloved characters, from DBZ. So people who are coming back to it have some form of similarity with the series and nostalgia. At the end of the buu saga and left the writers alot of wiggle room for the old fan favorites by keeping them all young/in fighting shape instead of writing to far into the future

The problem with naruto is that kishi didn't leave him self wiggle room to carry on the sieres and he is continuing it with the kids we known little about and care little about and old fan favorites are taking a back seat or no longer shinobi (old 5 kage, Kakashi, Gai and so on)

Thank you Arai. This needed to be stated. Stop comparing the 2. If anything Naruto took a play from DB. Dragonball is dated and super is more of a nostalgia feel as Gerkak mentioned. Naruto came a generation later and so the two are not going to be comparable. Dragonball was the anime of its time and Naruto the anime of its time.

Something else will replace Naruto eventually and you will see the same argument on forums of how how whatever new show is just the new Naruto and so on

It is a timeless classic no doubt, but going forward Naruto is the better thing to be a fan of in terms of the future, the canon of db has been analy devestated by Super Naruto still has a solid lore established and plenty of room for more adventures with the adult characters and their children

They don't seem like copies of their parents? Boruto is similar to kid Naruto but he's still completely different and feels a lot more spoiled and preppy. Sarada seems nothing like her parents. The novels all focused on the adult characters, if there's a threat there's no reason the adults won't step in. It will focus on the kids but also the adults, isn't that what dbz did with Goku and Gohan?

Personality wise, Yes they are different but i was talking about shinobi skill set wise.

Also yes DBZ did focus on gohan a little bit at the start and increasingly so as the story progressed but the main focus was still on Goku and his friends like it was in DB, Gohan's character development was steady with him showing dormant power (being a saiyan/human hybrid). it didn't just throw Gohan in the lime light as it seems to be the case for Boruto and the others.

I'm not saying Naruto/sasuke won't have roles at all but the main focus being on the next generation just doesn't appeal to me, I would rather of seen a manga during kakashi's reign as hokage or showing how the new current gen kages came to be, Naruto/Sasuke and the rest of the Konoha 11 advantures/battles before they became parents and so on.

I think kishi jumping head in the manga time line as far as he did was a mistake. chapter 699 was a good place to leave shippuden and a good place to start a new manga story line instead of what he did in chpt 700

team 4 star solo'ed DBZ years ago.it's nothing but a joke now(thou funny jokes), screw attack/deathbattle dethroned the feats and opm wankers from the hype is soloing DBS in just one season. there is no hope for the dragonball series, especially from a author whose memory is so shit that he lets goku get solo'ed by a laser gun.

To be fair, the Goku getting killed by a shitty lazer, was just as silly as naruto getting stabbed by a normal sword in gaiden

if it were just that, i wouldn't rage so much. but that wasn't the only issue w/ RoF arc. bulma was able keep track of SSB goku vs frieza move for move, like it was a boxing match. yet prior manga info (both DB and DBZ) clearly states avg humans cannot see such speed. sigh....so ****ing tired of defending dbz, being a dbz fan is the biggest burden ever, naruto fans should be grateful. kishi could've been MUCH more inconsistent-feat wise.

Dragonball super anime is dog crap, I personally avoided watching the animated version.

Iv'e only been reading the manga version, which has far less of these kinds of things happening in them.
