How do you feel about our current movie era? There are a lot of movies out there so please answer about them as a collective, not just choosing one movie to speak for them all.

Personally I'm disappointed. I think there's too much focus on action and CGI and too little on story and character development. I'm also getting tired of seeing so many remakes and wish there was more originality.

This era is shit. The only thing this era will be remembered for will be the rise and take-over of super hero films.

The 80's-90's were the best era for film - all the innovators and breakthroughs were made back then.

I'm in love with it. So. Many. Superhero. Movies. And. Shows. (The shows are so good!)

It is a dream come true.

Considering how Super Hero movies are 90% of my cinematic interests, it's great for me.

I prefer animated movies, and it's almost as though they've run out of ideas.

Sadly I think movies just need to stop being made altogether. All Hollywood can do now a days is reboot, remake, and make sequels that shouldn't be made. Or turn books into movies that are awful.

I like superhero movies but the recent ones are revolving around the same boring storyline. + they make lame remakes of classics, and they are just riding on the success of the first 1-2 episodes, ruining the series by running it up to 6-7 eps.

So, to be honest, I feel it's deteriorating altogether.

Just one of the most stark examples to demonstrate that, imo, is Star Wars VII. Don't get me wrong, it was nice and dandy, but it didn't show me much more than New Hope, neither in effects (despite the 3D crap), nor in storyline. The fact that I actually think that New Hope beats The Force Awakens, shows that in 40 yrs, the industry hasn't improved that much. It's more about massproducing clichés.

Good old horror movies like the relatively low budget Alien, the Thing, the Evil Dead, or Scream, are still unbeaten.

Comedies suck.

Of course there are some great movies every year, but lately I've been watching more movies from at least a decade ago, than from last year...

Superhero genre is entering puberty phase- everybody is tired of the same formulas and hence the unique takes such as Deadpool, Guardians & Winter Soldier are doing so well.

Film is in a great state. Oscar standard January releases have never been better & the industry is far from the rut it found itself in the 90s.

The only things that truly grind me are this 'HYPE' culture that has originated from stuff such as Star Wars, Jurassic World etc. Blockbusters are blockbusters but this online viral attitude to film has to stop. This latest Ghostbusters trailer? There's no right answer. Everything is so nostalgia-dependent that we're not going to have any icons or series for future generations- and that's truly sad.

The 90s (Aside from Disney) are an infamously weak era for film commercially. The largest blockbusters of this era were Space Jam, Godzilla, Demolition Man and cheesy Schwarzegger / Chan / Stallone action / comedies. The only truly great film was Jurassic Park and even then in the year 2015 we've leeched that legacy.

I agree with your statement.
Well, when I watch movies, I only do it for my friends who ask me to come with them. Being together is fun, but the movies are not really impressive to me. Like you said, the remakes and superhero-movies are so tiring. And when there are other, "new" movies, they are meh to me too. Don't know, maybe it's just me and my expectations are too high.

I'm looking forward to two movies in the future tho.
First is the movie-version of the video-game "The Last of Us", the second is the new "Avatar" movie from James Cameron.

Same goes for tv-shows.
Breaking Bad was the last series that I watched and enjoyed. But I'll try Ellen Page's "Gaycation" next, maybe this will be the next good thing to me.

I usually watch more tv shows than I do movies, and there's so many great ones to choose from.

When it comes to movies, the superhero genre is the one I watch the most, so it's defnitely great for me.

Corn Flakes over here said exactly what I'm thinking.

The TV game is strong. Seriously. So many awesome shows. #SoGood
