This is a simple thread
Not much we know about Itachi story with Yata and Totsuka, how he get it?
But what circulating inside my mind now is I think this spiritual weapons somehow have a soul and can chose the right/worthy wielder.
When we talked about spiritual thing, we couldn't dismiss from thinking about supernatural connection, astral projection inside mind and telling something, sign giving by influencing a heart of someone to follow it, living spiritual items that can talk or making a thought etc etc.
And in Itachi case it can be this weapons saw what kind of a person Itachi was and without Itachi knowing the reason behind it, he received some form of spiritual/astral sign/order that he need to make a move. And after he found out those weapons, the reason behind it being revealed.
By carrying this weapons, Itachi knew he got to be more responsible and that what actually a person he was from the beginning.
To think about it why not other people like Madara or Hashirama or even Naruto? Why Itachi? Even Orochimaru couldnt find it.
Orochimaru managed to find Kusanagi sword but failed to find Totuska and Yata strengthening my believe that Yata and Totsuka chose their right owner even further.
The reason here can be because of:-
1. His wisdom.
2. His thinking capability.
3. Itachi capability to make wise decision in many thing be it in fight or life.
4. His attitude that always down to the earth and a realist(he show it many time even guiding the main character Naruto).
5. His pure heart.

- Itachi is the only Shinobi in NV that destine to acquired both Spiritual weapons.
- This weapon have a spiritual capability to chose the right owner/wielder.
- This weapon not suitable/not looking for power hungry user but more into a person that was a realist, good hearted, and wise decision maker.
