I was theorizing about the Rinnegan in a separate thread, and the subject interested me enough to make an individual thread based on the topic. Rinnegan has so much more potential then it makes itself out to have, and i'll tell you how.

When we saw Nagato use the Rinnegan, we thought that those were it's only powers.

Later on Madara came with Tengai Shinsei and Limbo, showing that there are even more capabilities of the Rinnegan.

I believe that with due to the fact the Madara was not the original creator or the Rinnegan, he only has a rudimentary understanding of the Rinnegan. There is so much more to discover. Sasuke, used as an example because he is currently the only living Rinnegan user, is only at the tip of the ice berg when it comes to Rinnegan and I honestly don't think that he will live long enough to discover all the secrets of the Rinnegan. I'm sure that Hagoromo and Kaguya, being the first of the few to obtain Rinnegan, know a lot more about it's secrets and capabilities. But not even they were the original creators, so not even they truly know it's capabilities to it's fullest extent. While they think they may no every thing about it, even they can't be sure. Only Shinju would ever know, but that creature hasn't even used any Rinnegan techniques...

This is just my opinion, but I think Hagoromo is somewhat all knowing when its comes to chakra and anything jutsu related. He's been watching everything ever since his death.

And he's known almost to the point of being an myth and legend as the "Sage of the Six Paths".

Recall that Hagoromo had both RSM and Rinnegan..
RSM grants the user universal comprehension of all things including the Rinnegan..
that'd mean Hagoromo had universal comprehension of his Rinnegan via usage of RSM
