Name:John Constantine
Alignment: Neutral
Alias(es):Hellblazer | The Constant One
Secret Identity:N/A (Identity Public)

[td]

Looks: John is a fairly tall (6"0) man with blond hair and blue eyes, usually wearing a white button-up shirt with a black or red tie, a tan trench coat and dress pants. He also occasionally wears gloves, and has tattoos on his arms and upper torso, despite them hardly ever being seen.

Personality: Although a compassionate humanist who struggles to overcome the influence of both Heaven and Hell over humanity, and despite his occasional forays into heroism, Constantine is a foul-mouthed, disillusioned, British cynic who pursues a life of sorcery and danger. His motivation has been attributed to an adrenaline addiction that only the strange and mysterious can sate. Constantine is shown to be someone with a wide and international circle of contacts and allies, and is adept at making friends. He also has a reputation as being one of the most powerful sorcerers in the world, and has been referred to as "The Constant One" because of his whole family tree being somewhat connected to the occult. Many of his ancestors are sorcerers from different eras of history, and have taken part in many known historical events.

Rank // History

Rank: 4 (Hunter)
Origin Type: Magic
Origin Story:
As a young man, John became involved in occult circles around London. After learning all that he could of the occult and magical in Europe, he would later travel to New York City, to learn under one of the greatest mages in the world. As an occultist, John was capable of invoking textbooks to unlock the power of magic. Essentially, it is the ability to use magic without being born with the ability to use magic. John quickly became knowledgeable in many magical spells, curses and counter-spells; he also became one of a few people that know all the routes to Heaven, Hell, and the afterlife.

His days as a novice long since passed, John is now considered to be one of the strongest and most knowledgeable sorcerers to date.

History:
John's first venture into occult "heroism" was a disaster. On tour with his band at the Casa Nova Club in Newcastle, he found the aftermath of a magical seance gone horribly wrong: an abused child, Astra, had conjured a hideous monster that took revenge on the adults who were tormenting her, and the monster refused to leave. With typical recklessness, John convinced some members of the band, along with several occultist friends, to try destroying the creature by summoning a demon of their own. Unfortunately, this demon was not under their control and after it had destroyed the child's monster, it tormented Constantine's friends and took the child to Hell. John suffered a nervous breakdown after this incident, and was committed to Ravenscar Psychiatric Hospital, which he drifted in and out of over the years.

Much later, while in his late thirties, John contracted terminal lung cancer. During this time, he sought the help of a dying friend, who had sold his soul to the First of the Fallen, the most powerful Lord of Hell. When the First came to collect the soul, John tricked him into drinking holy water, which rendered him helpless and prevented him from collecting the friend's soul at the appointed time.

For this, the First promised to make John suffer unprecedented torment in Hell when he dies. Slowly dying from cancer, John hatched a plan to save himself from eternal torment. He secretly sold his soul to the other two Lords of Hell. When they discovered Constantine's actions they realized that they could not allow him to die, or else they would be forced to go to all-out war over his soul, a war whose only winner would be "the Lord of the Hosts," i.e., God and his angels. They were also far too stubborn and proud, however, to enter anything resembling an alliance. As a result, they were forced to cure John of his cancer.

Abilities // Equipment

  • Strength: 14
  • Intelligence: 40 (+5 from Divine Grace)
  • Speed: 20 (+5 from Divine Grace)
  • Durability: 24
  • Energy: 51
  • Technology: 0
Power/Ability:

Thaumaturgy

Description of Powers:
As a Thaumaturgist, or someone who is capable of performing magic to create things that would otherwise be impossible in the physical world, John is capable of Spirit Ward Creation (this consists of spells that range from curses and evocations to protection magic such as sigils and magic circles that can shield him from physical or supernatural attacks), Pyrokenisis (although he holds lesser command over pyrokenetic spells than most other pyrokenitics under normal circumstances, meaning that he can only manipulate naturally created fire, not generate it, typically requiring the use of his lighter to perform Pyrokenisis as a result), Demonic Conjuring ( John has several tattoos, all of which depict various incantation text and symbols that can be used to conjure single demonic creatures to aid him in battle for a certain amount of time, more often than not, coming with a price afterward), and Necromancy (a term used to describe the ability to summon the spirits of the deceased -- this however cannot be performed without having first harvested spirits from The Moonblade, a weapon of Constantine's). He is also highly resistant to possessions, and ever since tricking the Lords of Hell into curing his lung cancer, is in perpetually good health and physicality. Constantine's blood is demonically tainted, due in part by a blood transfusion from a demon. His blood can thus act as a defense mechanism against creatures that leech blood, as it is highly corrosive and poisonous.

Constantine's signature ability is Synchronicity Wave Traveling or Divine Grace (sometimes called "Divine Empowerment" or "Probability Manipulation"). Divine Grace is the inactive ability to contain a certain amount of finesse and elegance pervading all of ones actions. Usually the power derives from a divine source, depending on the person -- in this case, John's bloodline and ancestry, known as the Laughing Magicians, legendary mages who have the power over synchronicity and were infamous for bluffing and tricking gods. As a result, these gifts allow him to judge a situation in an unbiased manner, dodge bullets and other projectiles without the appearance of significant effort, lead him to uncanny luck, like winning incredible amounts of money from Arcade machines and Casinos, and more times than not -- to meet the right kind of ally to help prevent or stop an apocalyptic event from happening. One who has divine grace might be said to have the luck of the gods on their side.

Equipment:

Zippo Lighter: A lighter which Constantine typically uses to facilitate his Pyrokenitic spells. It's also etched with various symbols and incantation text.

The Moon Blade: (Submitting as a custom) The Moonblade is one of John's arsenal of magical weapons. The blade is said to shape with the different faces of the moon (longsword when its full moon, dagger when its new). Those killed by the Moonblade have their spirits stored in it -- as such, this is a tool used to facilitate John's abilities to perform Necromancy.

The Devil's Trench-coat: (Submitting as a custom)

A pack of Silk Cuts: The most important item John carries with him at all times; a pack of cigarettes.

Re: [LoT] John Constantine

I thought the title said, John Cena. xd

Also, regardless, if you have a magic Bio, I think technology is useful to level up. That way you can create magical amplifies and such.

Re: [LoT] John Constantine

Did you like, just list everything you could find for him under the ability description? The description section should be concise and explanatory, not longer than the rest of the bio. It should describe the Core Ability, not lust 20 things related to it. Your Core Ability listed is Divination, so your description should be describing that and what it allows.

Ah, didn't think of that. At the moment I'll probably just focus on getting his most important stats up, but I can always spec more points into technology in the future if I want to go that route. Thanks for the suggestion.
I actually love this bio despite not knowing anything more about him. Great Job Mudo-san.
Thanks!

Uhhhh... yeah. xD My bad.

Edited -- changed the core ability to Thaumaturgy since it's a better term to describe his abilities, removed the things that didn't have anything to do with his core ability (deception, escapology, etc) and moved the bit about Occultism from the ability portion into the origin story as it explains how he isn't a mutant. If it's still too long I can go ahead and remove the parts describing the abilities in parenthesis, and just put those descriptions in the techniques I'll make for them.
