Yes it is speculation but it does make sense, the rinnegan can extend it's techniques through mediums such as the chakra rods.

For example preta path was used

Also any full body defense, like Domu or possibly that Rubber Ball defense could protect their body, but it won't end the effect or let them out.

The opposite is the speculation here .saying sasuke can make anything/anyone a core for his CT without any kind of contact is like saying Sasuke or kaguya can absorb people chakra without any contact .which is false .
