[Discussion] Does Shanks Have A Devil Fruit? Or Nah?

I apologize if this exact scan and thought has been posted together before.. but after thinking about it, for Shanks to say these exact words makes me believe that he has never eaten a Devil Fruit.

I mean.. I can't imagine a pirate saying something like that, exploiting such a great weakness and literally laughing about it, and then later on giving himself that same exact weakness.

Idk.. what do you guys think?


EDIT: I know he obviously did not have a DF at the time of making that statement, since he swam successfully to save Luffy.

My question is for our current Shanks in the storyline.. Basically asking if you guys think he would eat a DF AFTER making that statement. Or nah?

I doubt he has a fruit and tons of others as well. He was shown swimming to rescue
Luffy with no consequences, except the shark biting his arm off and judging by his attitude
to the fruits it's just not likely that he'd eat one. He'd have no reason to eat one, except for
more power and it was already established he was going toe to toe with Mihawk during the
time period he was capable of swimming.

I feel you.. the only way I think it would be cool though, is if the DF is like one of the best of the best!

But it would still be a bit cooler if he beats a top tier opponent without having a DF IMO.. lol

He was just betting it on the new age bro.. Maybe he let it happen on purpose so it could have a very huge impact on Luffy and help improve the image he had of Shanks.. so the admiration/respect could be greatly increased..

but I honestly doubt it.. lol I think the sea monster was just too quick and Shanks didn't have enough time to free Luffy from the jaws of death without sacrificing something to the teeth/bite..

But who knows.. it could be either or with One Piece.. lol

Teach was on f***in' Whitebeard Pirates' ship in the days of Roger as Shanks was on Roger's, even though he remained low and mysterious, he was enough powerful to murder 4th Commander of WB fleet when he wanted...

Shanks might have recently gotten a boost in his ability but Teach was always different and mysterious(in his abilities) as (I think)Marco told about it in MF war...

Shanks haven't shown any indications if he have a DF and not even his top crew members have shown it... He must be like Garp, relying on skills, strength and Haki but obviously his Haki seems tiers above those who have already shown significant prowess in it...

Yeah, unless Oda had a really, really clever idea on what to give him, as well as a sound reason for his desire for it, it would be out of character for him to give up the ability to swim for no reason. He gave his arm as a bet on Luffy and the New Age, but he was capable of matching Whitebeard in their brief skirmish, and his mere arrival to Marineford ended the war. The only reason[ I]I[/I] can think of is one that could counter the Yami Yami no Mi

He doesn't need a power, but if he DID have one for whatever reason, I would bet it'd be either a Logia, of a nature that is very much intangible, but I can't think of a good example of that; or a Paramecia with a power in the same idea of the Ope Ope no Mi- a power that lets you control the battlefield and negate any counterattacks, should you have the skill. I think a fruit that weaponizes fear would be interesting, but Zoro already could do that without a DF or Haoshoku Haki, or at least, to our knowledge, no Haoshoku. I think a Zoan is out of the question, as I don't think there's an animal that he fits the theme and nature of.

Ooooooooo! If Shanks ran into a DF post-timeskip that is the perfect counter for the Yami Yami no Mi then that would actually be pretty cool.. and it wouldn't be trolling for Oda to do that.. but damn the only thing I can think of off the top of my head is the light fruit that Kizaru already has.. lol but I'm interested to see what Oda comes up with.

And you know what's funny, you just made remember something a little interesting... Buggy didn't even want to eat the DF.. lol it happened by accident.. hmmm it really makes me wonder if Gol D Roger never had a DF, and therefore his crew and underlings thought it was the best way to live as a pirate also..
