Narutos team members served as foil to his character. So no having a character who's sole purpose is to d ride him and everything he does would be a terrible idea for the story kishi had layed out in the beginning. Especially if sasuke is still on the team. Maybe if hinata was a more of a character outside of just being obsessed with Naruto.

Strictly shippudden. I agree for pairing development but it would be less interesting then Sai. Sakura would just have to accept that another female is on the team. Hinata will be a wreck around Naruto now that she'd be with him a lot more but eventually grow out of it kinda. Then Sakura would get lonely, even jealous, seeing Naruto and hinata bond.
One of Sakura's most egregious flaws as a main character, especially as a heroine, is that, she lacks her own agency as a character. She's a satellite, revolving around Sasuke, Naruto, and "Team 7". She has no content as a character outside of pairings and what relates to Team 7. It got to the point where she can barely be considered an actual written character, she's just an accessory to counter all the testosterons and masculinity--and she couldn't even do these two purposes correctly. And when we speak about main characters who are supposed to move the plot, you'd assume them to have a story of them own, some reason why we're expected to want to read about the life of this character. Like Hinata dord.
Hinata would have been so compelling. A girl who's just as dedicated to hard-work and being a ninja as the boys. A girl with no talent busting her ass to get better. This kind girl pushing herself beyond her limits, through blood and sweat, honestly trying to become a person she herself can like. This terribly honest, insightful girl who doesn't blame others for her problems, mope around constantly, or use her situation to justify something about herself. Who's suffered so much yet bears no ill will toward her family despite having every reason to. She is a character with flaws, and she's aware that she has them (though far, far too hard on herself), and is honestly trying her absolute hardest to get better-to prove something, most of all, to herself.
I mean, would you rather the kunoichi protagonist be a neglected heiress spilling blood and tears to prove her worth, or a normal every-girl who has no backstory, no real internal struggle, and is basically clueless to the term "true love"?
Like I do declare Sakura should be a support, Hinata should've been one of the pinnacles that kept the story going. If Hinata was the female protagonist, we would've seen what's within the Hyuuga clan, we would've learned what happened to her mother, the relationship she probably had with her father before her mother's death, and we would definitely had seen more of Hanabi-who would have no doubt risen to fandom favorite status (her two episode special got great reception, and was one of the few well written and introspective fillers that SP wrote). Putting Hinata as a main character would definitely balance the team as each have a reason to work their way to their goals, and with her charity, they would've helped each other more, they'd come to understand each other more as a unit, they've had connected deeper - so deep Sasuke would've been even more conflicted about leaving the village, I guarantee it.
Hell, she's already displayed these skills in Team 8 with Shino and Kiba, the ability to be objective and have a mind of her own.
The middle ground is where Hinata could truly connect to both Naruto and Sasuke.
Ultimately, Hinata has personal issues like the men on the team: Naruto is the village pariah with no family, Sasuke's trauma of the night he lost his family, and Kakashi losing one loved one after another; Hinata's mother isn't around, so obviously the woman's dead of unknown causes, her father disregards her existence in favor of her little sister, her cousin mocks her kindness as weakness, and basically she was unwanted by her own clan. You cannot ignore the match-ups.
Naruto- No need to explain the connection part here. You read the manga, so we all know why Hinata admires Naruto so much. The thing I'd really like to say about this, is that she would be someone in his life he never had before-a peer that likes him without reservations. By this I mean, Hinata is truly interested in being his friend, and supporting him. She wouldn't make fun of him or put him down in favor of Sasuke. She would listen to him talk big, she would accept him, she would believe in him. Naruto would have his first friendly friend, if that makes sense (Sasuke and Naruto are best friends, but their general day-to-day relationship is riddled with a lot of annoyance with one another). It would mean so much to Naruto, and he would give all the friendship she gives him in return. The two would be such a positive influence on one another, and they would be true best friends. I mean, they already have such a real bond in the manga, and they barely even interact. Imagine what it could be if they were on the same team...
Sasuke- Sasuke too, would make his very first "friendly" friend. Sasuke would be put on a team with the only kunoichi in his class who doesn't have romantic feelings for him. Right off the bat, Sasuke can interact with her with no ulterior motive from Hinata. Not only do they have so much in common (being the second best to their fathers, trying to strive to earn their acknowledgement, kekkei genkai, older and superior brothers, coming from powerful clans), but she retains many qualities that Sasuke has a respect for. She's a very hard-worker, and she's truly dedicated to improving herself as a ninja. She's also quiet, a thinker, and an insightful person. She's not only someone he could train with, she's someone who he could truly connect to.
Poor Kakashi got riddled with some problematic students. A knucklehead ninja, an antisocial with serious issues, and a girl more concerned with romance than a ninja career. People always give Kakashi a hard time for not training Sakura. I agree about 50% of the way. Kakashi is a sensei to pre-teens who aspire to be ninja. He's not a babysitter. As such, why doesn't Sakura ever come to Kakashi and ask him to train her? Why doesn't she display the same pro-activism that Naruto and Sasuke do, despite the fact that she desires to improve? Yes, Kakashi should have tried harder with her, but Sakura needs to have the drive too. With Hinata as his kunoichi, he'll have a girl on the squad who not only gets along with the boys and truly understands them , but is committed to being a better ninja.
I mean, the more one thinks about it, the more it just works. Its so natural, so fitting. And not even just for Hinata but for Sakura too.
Sakura was stated to have an affinity for genjutusu (which, incidentally, isn't something everyone can learn). Amazingly, Sakura would be taking Hinata's spot on a team where the sensei is one of the best genjutus users of their village.
Not only that, but this fits right in with Team 8. Shino being the ultimate tracker (Kishi severly underused Shino, them bugs were efficient as ****), Kiba and Akamaru being support trackers as well as prime offense (that there's two of them is a bonus) and Sakura fits in as the decoy/distraction. On a tracking/subterfuge team, Shino finds the enemy, Kiba beats them back, and Sakura serves as an enticing distraction that gives opportunity to offense.
Not only will Sakura have something that defines her besides "smashysmashy", but she'd be a true master in something she excels in. In fact, being around Kurenai, a strong, dedicated woman whose obviously not about sitting back and letting the boys do all the hard work, would do wonders for Sakura, who needs someone to seriously help her with character growth considering she doesn't have the self awareness nor capacity to stimulate it herself. Kurenai could be exactly what Sakura needs in a sensei.
That's to say nothing of how this can still work with her being a medic, bettter even. Kiba's sister, Hana, is a medic. Perhaps, through getting to meet/know her, Sakura develops a genuine interest in medical jutsu, then asks to be Tsunade's apprentice when she finds she has an affinity for it? Which is a way better reason than "the boy I liked left, and it finally sparked me to get serious about my ninja career once my cushy Sasuke-kun/Team 7 boat was rocked".
Hinata is already the most popular female character in the manga, and she has, what, less than 100 pages of panel time in a 700 chapter series? I'm not saying her character doesn't have issues (it does), but her development has been decent until the War Arc.
This isn't even scratching the surface of the issue. Its clear to me that Kishi did a real disservice to his manga when he sidelined Hinata, and even he knows it to an extent (in one interview he even plainly states that Hinata would make a better heroine than Sakura)

Sakura was stated to have an affinity for genjutusu (which, incidentally, isn't something everyone can learn). Amazingly, Sakura would be taking Hinata's spot on a team where the sensei is one of the best genjutus masters of their village, on par with Itachi Uchiha.

If only Kishi had focused every character. This is spot-on even if it isn't in the show... I still don't like how Hinata became relevant now but she did have potential to become better but I don't know why Kishi didn't give characters like her a chance.
A great story with many flaws is what I'd say. But I digress. I like this post.

Yeah man. The whole Uchiha - Hyuuga thing had potential in this story, hell, even Hinata had some very small parallels to Sasuke, and the Uchiha Clan. Something Kishimoto could of worked on to make the story better.
All around, it depends on the writing, he could of made two very well liked characters in the story. Sad that he didn't.

The others in this thread and the video I shared speak on the why. Kishi had a chance for something great with this. I'll start a flame war, but from what I saw so far, Oda wouldn't have made a gaffe like this. It isn't about replacing Sasuke outright. Just as a fill in member. It really brings into question was Sai needed.

These parallels are exactly why I've decided to write a fanfic about them in the first place :lol Nice scans. Makes me wonder how good this manga could potentially have been.

K11 where not important enough to the overall story so thier development is really irrelevant to be honest. This includes hinata. Her sole purpose I ln this series is to be pairing fodder for Naruto other than that her importance is non existent.
And to be honest their didn't really need to be much of anything that explains the pairing all that was needed to be done was to illustrate the two ended up together how they ended up shouldn't have been the focus.
But since kishis for some reason wanted to focus on romance something he admitted he sucks at writing we got that not the last Naruto movie anymore movie that does a terrible job at developing the pairing. Even trying to retcon the series saying Naruto only pretended to like Sakura so much wrong with that shit its not even funny. Biggest problem being it makes Naruto into the type of person he hates wich are people that lie to themselves bit I guess it's okay when he does it smfh.
