considering Shield of Shukaku is obviously far tanker than that thin layer of sand his automatic defense provided him with.

Defensively... V2 Susanoo came to mind most so probably that

Gaara's Gourd Sand is weaker than Gaara's Shield of Shukaku, so it certainly could tank the Blades of Madara's V3 Susano'o Clones.

It's supposed to be his best defense apart from a sand tsunami and or the shield of Karura.
