Is Itachi Shiden worth the hype?

I heard about the Itachi Shiden novels which were written by Takashi Yano and illustrated by Masashi Kishimoto and initially felt really excited about them. But when I checked them properly and realized how closely they resembled stuff which we're already aware of, I began to lose interest. :eww: Itachi is one of my fave characters but I really don't see any point why they went as far as to produce something which we already know about and the fact it's going to be animated in March. Some of the info I read seems familiar to what we already saw in earlier Shippuden episodes and especially in the Kakashi Anbu arc. Also some of the content included was shown in the original anime footage from the 'Two Uchiha' in the video game, Naruto Shippuden: UNS Revolution.

I don't know about you guys, but I dislike watching stuff which I've already seen and know about. I'd preferred if they gave us Obito Shiden or even Madara Shiden. Atleast they actually had a longer history than someone like Itachi. Even Shisui had a really short history. On the other hand, I'm looking forward to Sasuke Shiden and Jinraiden and hope they get animated also, even though i'm not a huge fan of Sasuke. :xD:

Other stuff I look forward to reading and hope they also get animated, are the Naruto Hiden novel series.

That is the only reason I don't mind watching the Itachi anime: Yata Mirror and Totsuke Blade.

As much as I'd love to see all of that stuff again, Itachi never really used his Susano until at the end and during edo tensei form. According to the info we got, this new series will mainly be focusing on Itachi's earlier life when he was in the Anbu and there was a coup detat and all. In short, I don't think we'll be seeing any susano from him. :eww:

If it focuses on his Anbu life then we've not seen it before, It'll should be something of Bunshin's power scale so it can't be all bad.

The Anbu part will more than likely be a recap of episode 357, and may slightly be extended if we're lucky. :hmm:

If you're into back story and the political nature of NV, along with shinobi life for young ninjas in NV- maybe.

If you're into OP fights mainly, then no not at all. It's basic ninja style with weapons mainly, nothing more hax than the stuff shown in Pt 1 Naruto of the manga (which makes sense given the time period of the novels).

The novel is just his childhood shinobi days, up until the massacre. Mainly has stuff on his relationship with his dad, people throughout the village, comrades, and Shisui. Also has his "lover" Izumi (not really his lover, just some girl everyone mistakes for a gf since they were good friends).

There is no decent summary for the second novel yet, and I doubt there will ever be one since translators will likely move on to the other novels because like you said the anime is announced to cover the entire story for him.
