Oda said "In a 1 vs 1, always bet on Kaido". That makes it pretty obvious that Kaido is the strongest person alive.
Technically, that was Urouge doing narration. So all that means is that Urouge thinks Kaido is the strongest.

How can he be the strongest if, according to that same narration, he's been defeated and captured multiple times?

Anyway, there's plenty of loopholes around that kind of hype. If he's the strongest man alive, then Big Mom will kick his ass. If he's the strongest pirate, then Akainu will wreck him. If he's the strongest human, then you claim the other Yonko are monsters. If he's the strongest creature, then you claim the other Yonko are gods. If he's the strongest entity, then Oda will kill him.

Uhhh his will to die IS empowering him...it's just no the SOLE thing empowering him.

No it's not. It amazes me how narrowminded you gotta be to not get this. Kaido wants to lose, but he doesn't wanna to go out like a ***** because that would be boring. He wants that, if he dies, it's in some grand, spectacular, non-boring way. As such, he fights all out, the same way everyone else does, but instead hoping he wins, he hopes he loses. But because he can't just sit around and be boring, because he needs excitement, he can't just sit around and let himself get weak. It's a paradox and is the reason why someone so suicidal is even still alive.

Kaido WANTS to lose, but he also WANTS to lose in a grand way, so he engages in brutal battles that he ends up winning and going "****, gotta try again." Kaido gives his all because of his will to have excitement, not because of his will to win. His will to die is just as strong as his will for excitement, but the latter ends up impeding on what the other wants, creating a vicious cycle.
exactly then it is not truly the will to lose or die.

Who said that was Urouge?

And its safe to bet for him in a 1v1, that means he has the highest chances of winning in a fight against any one in One Piece. Doesn't mean he is guaranteed a victory, but his chances are better than any one else.

Kaido is like gengetsu, wants to be beaten, but only by someone who can defeat him at full power

Kaido is the strongest living thing. Doesn't make sense for Shanks to be stronger.
I've already explained how that kind of hype can easily be broken, earlier in this thread. The reason Scorezor thinks Shanks is stronger is because Kaido attacked Shanks before Marineford, and Shanks still showed up there without a scratch. That would imply that Shanks was able to defeat Kaido, or at least not take any serious harm in their battles.

Damn so a person who got a scar by a DFless Teach was able to overpower something that can survive falling from the sky :bdpf:
