The target has to accept their fate instead of running from it. Izanami guides you towards accepting your fate instead of relying on Jutsu to change it (referring to Izanagi). It has an escape which is too dangerous to use in combat which is why it was labeled as Forbidden.

An idea just occured to me. There's this new manga/anime, Noragami, in which Izanami traps minor gods in the underworld, and they are to escape by their names being called. For which you have to know their real name. Which may refer to one's true self. Which is basically how you can get out of izanami in Naruto: by realizing your true self.
