Anime filler spoiler Byakugan masked man

So it is revealed that Neji's father is the masked man in the anime filler of Jiraiya's book.
At the end of the episode they zoom in on his eye.

The sclera is black on his eye.
I wonder if that has something to do with the seal on his forehead and him having been given to Kumo.
How do you think this happened?

Somehow he isnt dead, yet was supposed to be given dead to Kumo.
I wonder how he survived.
Maybe through a Byagukan technique at the cost of an eye. Somewhat similar to Izanagi or
through some other jutsu method.
Maybe being given dead to Kumo wasnt done after all.
Maybe he has a Byakugan from someone else after his eyes got sealed.
Something else?
