Not at all pathetic. As long as you are genuinely happy and have a job (and/or go to college or school, depending on age as this goes to everyone), then that is all that matters. Some people may think it is pathetic, but nothing is pathetic about just being you. There will always people like that and they suck. If you're happy, keep doing what you're doing.
My self-esteem would be much better if I were going to college instead of just working at a job where I know I'm super expendable.
I finished one semester. Will be going back once my financial situation's better :)
And thanks for not thinking I'm pathetic. Much appreciated
lol, no. The only actual issue with what you enjoy doing is productivity and that
itself applies to a good amount of hobbies :p lol I couldn't even say it's pathetic considering
we're all on an anime forum that most of us are stingy about, yet our time spent on it is very
evident.
lol well, my first assumption of everyone on here when I first joined NB was that you're all loners and broke like me haha
But I now know that that's far from the case. Many NBers have great social lives, jobs/careers, talents, financial stability or even abundance, etc.
Not sure about other anime forums, but NB has some respectable people
Don't feel obligated to live life to its "fullest". If you prefer to be laid back and relaxed, then so be it. Although it would be nice to get out of your comfort zone every now and then. You might even discover a new hobby that way.
Being overly-introverted isn't my ideal lifestyle, but my circumstances leave me with no other choice unfortunately.
And thanks for the advice!
All jobs are lame thats life its better to work then live on the streets or in a jail cell
Touché. Well, besides those fortunate enough to have jobs they're passionate about and tap dance out of bed to go to. That's the dream
I love this thread coz of its relativity. xD
85% of my joy comes out of my computer in one form or another. xD
You kind of enjoy it a lot but it also makes you sad for some reaso.
Maybe its sad because that is the main source of our joy and not human interactions or its not productive probably.
Wow. Deep stuff, man. Agreed.
Hope the best for you. And hope your vision's fine. I screwed up my 20/20 by frequently having either a phone, laptop, TV, or handheld gaming console in my face lol
That's fine and all, but it wouldn't hurt to get out there once in a while. I'm an introvert so I like to be alone at times, but other times I go out and chill with my friends. I think you should search for other things that make life worth living.
Thanks, fellow introvert. Hope you have awesome, quality friends.
For me its normal because I have same craze for tv shows.
My brother lol
Some stories and characters are just too damn compelling not to watch
Be happy you still have something you genuinely feel excited about. I can't remember the last time I felt like that outside of my childhood.
Damn, man. That's odd coming from you. I checked out the "Show yourself" and "Show a video of yourself" threads and noticed that you seem to be a REALLY awesome dude. I don't mean to "be on your nuts"--for lack of a better term lol--but you come off as really smart and outgoing. Even fit and good looking, too. Usually, a person with all of that can get almost anything he or she wants out of life if he or she really tries
But of course, I don't know your story, so I won't judge you or make assumptions any further. Just hope that great things come your way

Dude you gotta own who you are. If you really like those shows then indulge in them and take pride doing it. Go to comic-con conventions and make friends with like minded people. Buy a Flash T-shirt, start your own business etc. The bottom line is you're afraid that you're not following your purpose and don't like what society says you should do. However, why even listen to something that denies you your true self? The first thing you need to do my friend is create personal boundaries, a set of rules that you won't break or negotiate ever that if anyone crosses you are prepared to walk away and never look back. Once you do that you're going to need to ditch some friends, it's unfortunate but alot of times when people feel depressed it's not really them but their environment making then feel that way. Choose to be happy, choose to only care about people who genuinely care about you, take care of your body and health, you gotta live your own life, never settle on that, good luck man.
Would def like to go to Comic Con one day.
Thanks for the advice and good luck to you, too
I guess you have your reasons for feeling this way and obviously things you'd rather not share with us online. I personally don't believe it is normal for all your excitement to come from the entertainment industry. I don't believe TV shows and Movies should be the sole reason you wake up everyday. These mediums of entertainment allow us to escape our daily lives; they provide us with a fantasy which is often much better than reality. I know for sure that I've had days where the only good thing thats happened was when my favourite TV show came on :p I don't know what's happening in your life right now. Heck, I can barely understand my own at times haha. But for the most part, I think something that should excite us is life. I think, for the most part, we as individuals can create our happiness. There are always negative things happening (and for some, there is a lot more negative than positive), but I guess it's true when people say "these times will pass", and I guess things will eventually get better or at least work themselves out. For the most part, I guess it's up to us and how we choose to act based on what's happening around us.
I know I've gone off on a tangent here but I just thought I'd add my two cents :) I hope you find something that excites you in life, something which gives your life meaning (something real, not manufactured). Anways, enjoy the rest of your day/night!
The bold is probably want appeals to me the most
And your two cents is worth millions, man.
Thanks. I hope you find the same, if you haven't already
Step 1) Gather you friends (If you dont have friends, well get some you antisocial ghost)
Step 2) Go out and do something unusuall to you
Step 3) Going out all the time and that's very important, you see new faces quite refreshing
Step 4) Talk to people when you are outside, just 1 or 2 random qusetion untill you get used to it
Step 5) Talk to girls, Yes that your problem, GET A GIRLFRIEND.

You are welcome
lol thank you. I'm definitely an introvert, but I can be a social butterfly when I'm in a good mood. So not knowing how to speak to peeps isn't my problem. But still, your tips are much appreciated
I don't know, it seems odd to me. But then again, I am not much of a tv viewer. I consider the idiot box to be a waste of time. Whilst, I have no moral or any other high ground to tell you otherwise, I would suggest that you try to find more out of life than fictional tv. It seems to me that you are more interested in out-of-reality than real. Again, I am not preaching, just making an observation.

But, since it makes you happy ... then where is the loss? I would still opt for some concrete form of happiness that directly brings a change in your life, rather than passive, vicarious feeling that goes well into the abstract domain. But, that is up to you as an individual. Weigh and gauge your life. Think on it and consider, "would I always be content if I live like this?" "Should there be more to my life and happiness?" "Would I find true contentment by simply being a passive observer?"

I am not telling you this so that you change yourself; I am telling you this so that you 'might' change yourself once you develop a different perspective by evaluating yourself. I tend to think on things in this manner. Sometimes, a different perspective can make a lot of difference.

My two cents.
"idiot box" ouch. I'd use that term only to people who solely watch crap like reality shows. Much education can come from TV, man.
And no need to emphasize on the fact that you're not trying to seem superior to me because I'm sure you actually are lol as in smarter and more mature
It's my belief that fiction is the best thing in this world. Fictional TV shows, movies, manga/anime, novels, video games, etc. Just think about how crazy people are for Star Wars, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, comics, live-action comic adaptations, and so on. Fiction brings people so much joy. More so than food, ***, and love
Thanks for your wise words. Your two cents has been deposited into my mental piggy bank
Sometimes I wanna die but then I remember Destiny is a 10 year series so I gotta live just a bit longer.
Don't know if you're mocking me or not. If not, then I'm sorry to hear. Wish I was the only person with bogus thoughts like that.
I feel like everyone and anyone but me has what it takes to live a good life

I know what you mean OP. I used to live and feel the exact same way except for me it was video games instead of TV. The best advice I could say is to find something that you can express yourself with and build upon it. For me it was photography. After finding a camera I suddenly went to school and got a degree for it, started a business etc. It's really just a matter of finding something that fulfills you and then applying it.

You could prob try out some different arts to express yourself and see if it sticks or since you like TV and movies maybe you can be a critic like Angry Joe or Nostalgia Critic?

Wow. Great job on starting your own business. That seems surreal. Though I know that it comes with stress because I watch a lot of Shark Tank and The Profit. Hope you and your business are excelling
And it's not so much that I'm more passionate about TV and movies than the average person. It's just that work takes up so much of my time that I use those mediums of entertainment as ways to escape and relax. I'd pursue writing a potential New York Times' bestseller if I had the time and money
Thanks for the advice!

It's completely my fault for not elaborating on it. I was specifically targeting fictional shows, as I myself have amassed a lot of knowledge from channels such as History, Discovery, National Geographic and Animal planet etc.

But fair enough on your views. I am still glad that you are listening to the other perspective as well.

P.s: You don't need a lot of money for writing. Just a bit of time from your daily routine. If it's something you are truly passionate about, then a little sacrificing is all right. I think you really should give it a go, as there are plenty of good writing websites who help people out in this regard.

If you do need help, then I can forward a Neogaf link on here, as they have a great platform for writers on there, and people from that forum HAVE published their own works. All you need is a bit of dedication.

Pathetic isn't the right way to put it, more like a shame. There will be people who'll tell you it's alright to live such a life but by the end of the day, this isn't really something / a life you wanted. Obviously there's a backstory behind this, a reason for why television is your source of joy (it could be lack of friends or no friends at all, family problem, no girlfriend / boyfriend, etc)
I'm sure once the shows ended, you're left with a depressive thoughts. The depressive thoughts means you're unsatisfied, you don't want this. Are you really willing to live you life like this forever or do you want to change it? Are you willing to choose the first option and left to wonder what it could have been if you had chosen the second option or do you want to one day be thankful that you have chosen the second option? This life is your book, books comes with chapters, chapters comes with changes, changes comes with actions. Go and make the change (if that is what you want) and three months from now, post something on this thread about that change you made and where it has led you.
