Why did Sasuke go after Itachi if he admitted he wasn't strong enough?

When Naruto and the others finally found Sasuke, he said neither he nor Orochimaru were strong enough to beat Itachi. Now I know Sasuke grew quite a bit between then and his defeat of Orochimaru, but he also admitted to Karin after his fight with Deidara that Orochimaru was already weakened when he "killed" him, leading me to believe that Sasuke felt unsure whether or not he could have beaten Orochimaru at full strength. If he stated that Orochimaru was no match for Itachi, and he felt unsure that he himself could beat Orochimaru at full strength, why did he go after Itachi? Did he lose patience?

After he fought Oro he absorbed his powers making him stronger. He also had a plan for dealing with Itachis abilities bar Susanoo via Kirin.

Well Sasuke didn't know the extent of Itachi's power and thought Oro's was enough.

Sasuke does'nt care if someone is stronger. He overcame that when he fought Oro in part one. He recognized he himself had formidable strength and it comes from within. His ambition for revenge drove him to Itachi.

Sasuke would fight any and everyone who stands in the way of his ambitions. He's said it many times. It was time.

Sasuke planned to destroy any trace of Itachi's exists via Kirin. He didn't have to be as strong as Itachi for that to happen.

The replies saying Sasuke figured his absorption of Orochimaru would put him on-par with Itachi make sense to me. Not sure how I neglected that reasoning.

The ones saying Sasuke was just vengeful and didn't care whether or not an opponent was stronger I disagree with. If that were the case he wouldn't have sought Orochimaru out in the first place to gain strength. He vigorously prepared for his bout with Itachi. He did not just rely on his hatred and thirst for vengeance alone. I think after Itachi's death, however, that he did start to rely more heavily on his raw hatred, and as a result became reckless, attacking the Kage Summit and whatnot. The dude was nuts for attacking a building that housed 5 of the world's (arguably) strongest ninja.

After all...

I really like those two scenes though :hyper:
