Comics post him in a more positive light.

One of the reasons I can't stand non-canon material like those live action series; they're about as relevant and comparable in quality to canon as fillers are in Naruto.

You need to learn how to separate live action from actual comic book world, there has NEVER been a live action flick to mimic the comic books down to the T, mainly b/c comics, especially DC and marvel have soo many universes, different versions of the same character, and many different character crossovers, that it would just not work for live action. The Flash is a good show and does well, especially since the Flash is already a comic that has it's own crossovers and universes within itself, it's not as simple as a manga.

OP: with that said, I'm still trying to figure out Jay Garrick's purpose, but I believe he will have a hand in stopping Zoom later on down the line, it's still pretty early in the season.

Can't compare the shit that is Naruto fillers, to one of the best tv series going on right now. And like SoundBar said, it's not even the same since comic book series never follow the comic books completely.

ot; It looks like Jay can't teach Barry all that much since Barry seems better than him already.

Well he has no powers and there's nothing he can add right now other then what he already has. He told Barry Zoom was monster but Barry didn't believe him and found out the hard way Jay was right.

I think he'll be more relevant as the series goes on when he actually gets his powers back. I suppose as of now he isn't much help but I feel he'll come into play very soon.

I know there's multiple universes but what you need to learn is that Jay Garrick has canonically resided primarily on New Earth and Earth 2. Many (Most) of those crossovers and other alternate universes aren't DCU.

Comparing concepts, not quality. Not that either have much anyway; where the fillers have ridiculous/drab plots, the Flash has poor acting. Both have that sweet similarity of being inconsistent though!
