Mary Sue characters come in many varieties (canon characters can be them too, yeah), but the main defining factor, at least to me, is the author's own attitude towards the character. Sometimes, people like the OCs they create too much, so much that they can't bring themselves to write anything bad happening to them. That's always a bad sign, since characters are ultimately tools for writing and not real people.

And inserting yourself into one character or several isn't wrong - in fact, it's inevitable. It's just that, you should always be able to understand that telling a story well is just as important as creating a character well.

Indeed that is a true fact
Well i think no matter how much you like one i always like it when something bad happens to a character as it makes there personalities realistic
Mary Sues may be cool for some people but unrealistic personality so i hate mary sues
When i would make a character everyone equal i have actually the guts to bring a misfortune to each character because it is more fun to see how they deal with it and also for battle or psychological stories you need something that escalates and brings characters into situations where violence is happening and therefore its neccesary to bring negative stuff to diffferent characters

Psychological dramas where only one option
For example some things resemble the reality for example only one option is possible for example for this characters sakes ahppiness another character must face hell but he can escape hell if the happiness of the other character is not happening

I like stories where not everyone together gets happy like in reality we have people that get what they want or at least are happy but some will face hell forever and fail all the time and if they wanna be happy they need to take something from another person

It depends on the viewer
Some people do actually feel characters for serious unlike people like you
Some things in Fiction make me feel like brutality i love violence and brutality in Fiction and well of course i am against MAry Sues also for ther eason that i prefer a bad end with a lot of Death and only like a Faction of the characters continue a good life

Of course it is a Ballance you cannot each one a sad end some characters always akke it outised alive but its not much just a few

I read fanfics. I like them because you can explore different themes of what the canon didn't do or didn't explore.

Let's take naruto as an example. I really enjoy reading fanfics that they're in a different type of world. You know our world (no jutsus/tailed beast/sharingan/byakugan) just normal people. They go to high school, drama and comedy at it finest.

I read other anime/manga/ln fanfictions such as DxD, high school of the dead, etc.

The number of fanfics I've read are probably in the single digit area, but I do know what I require in order to get hooked to something:

1. Good grammar and punctuation. As soon as I see ''u'', ''liek'', names having no capital letters and commas being non-existent I drop it.
2. Well-presented story. Even if it is completely expected and cliche, if it's written well I can totally overlook that and enjoy it.
3. Fanfics that give the vibe like they're written by teens making a crappy love story are an immediate drop.
4. Character development that's different from the canon material.
5. Unlike canon, I tend to avoid ones with perfect MCs.
6. Good vocabulary.

Currently I'm only following one fanfic (from NB's own fanfic section), and it covers all those points.

Well i can see you are a harsh but good judgement

If i would make a story i would let people like you read it first before publishing you seem to be that type that can find the tiniest mistakes

In just felt like saying this

^ That's the reason I mostly write in my own language. I may know English well enough for most indents and purposes, but I don't have a good enough grasp of it to construct a story that flows well (I can only write in a formal manner more appropriate for articles). One example would be the fact that I can write poetry in my language, but not in English.

Russian. And I've been writing in it for maybe about 18 years, as opposed to only three or four stories in English in the past few years. My Ran fic is in English though.

Also, by the way, one more advice I'd give to any aspiring writers: read, and not just anything, but books recognized as great works of literature. You may not like them all, but it's the best way to hone your skills IMO. I've read a large number of books in English before I started writing in it (mostly classics). I found that it can be easy to start by imitating the style you like and then evolve it to make it your own.
