Based on the context, he was about to say something like "I won't object" not "I won't be your comrade." Madara was "redeemed" in his death.

Madara was always the the friend of hashirama, that however doesn't mean that he came to realization, he simply couldn't com to realization unlike other villains, as he already had a deeper understanding of people and the universe than anyone else.

Dude was literally backstabbed by something he considered loyal to him. Remember, Madara thought BZ was just an extension of his will, so he had no reason to distrust BZ in the slightest.

Madara was so ungodly powerful that Kishimoto had to have a minor character backstab him and turn him into a woman, just so he could be defeated.

It be like naruto never thinking Sakura or Hinata would stab him

Madara got what He deserved a Fools death. Madara got used all along by Kaguya fool to believe He was in charge of the plan,that He thought He created.All that wasted time and effort following a plan to benefit Kaguya not Himself a real royal fool.
