I think there's a fair balance over over rate-ing and under

The overhypers rely on hype(which is weird because most of them say you can't do that when arguing against a character but they use it when arguing for) and the underhypers rely on no feats shown.

Right now since it's all opinion based on portrayal we can't really say yet whether he's over or under estimated because we don't have a clear gauging of his worth yet.

He has hype but not enough feats to back it up(as WSS), so if you go by hype and require feats then he is overrated but if you go by his title then he is underrated.

Overrated as **** in OP section.

Awfully overrated

I can see him being slightly more powerful than doffy, meaning admiral level at the very best
Wrong. As someone who was a type of rival to Shanks he can't be slightly stronger than Doffy lol that would mean that even freakin Luffy will surpass him in like 2 arcs

He wasn't his rival, wtf? They just used to have fights in their older years, which we know nothing about (strength wise), and luffy surpassing him in 2 arcs is just a speculation, doffy was seriously OP.

Plus where are the feats that put him above doffy? I'll wait.

underestimation as if some dont understand his hype and protrayal ? no because his hype is as cleasr as day light but some people cant just accept it and there are many of them:

there are fans who cant accept that mihawk is at least equal to there fav so the try thier best to dwongrade him
there are fans who cant accept that the idole of there fav could be weaker than anoher cahracter so they try thier best to dwongrade him
there are fans who cant accept that zoro the one who they think is equal/extremely close to thier fav is going to be that powerfull cause they know that thier fav chances in being at such status is low
so there are a lot of poeple who cant accept mihawk being in such high status and they try to down play him as hard as they can but I dont think that is a an underestimation cause I am 100% sure that they know the truth.

He's neutrally rated. His title of WSS can be interpreted in two ways, both of which are present here. BTW, achieving WSS is a feat in itself, not hype. It's the same as achieving the title of an Admiral, or a Yonko, or the World's Strongest Man.

Plus where are the feats that put him above doffy? I'll wait.
Achieving the title of WSS is that feat. That alone puts him on the level of, if not stronger than, Shanks.

Some people mistakingly think that Mihawk needs to be overhyped for Zoro. Not at all when Rayleigh exists, said Rayleigh who is the representation of Zoro in the previous pirate king crew, said Rayleigh who a swordsman, said Rayleigh implied to be stronger than admirals in his prime, said Rayleigh Zoro is destinated to surpass in his prime and thus it's only natural to think that his final level opponent should be around that level of strength while pushing him to transcend his limits regardless if it's Mihawk or not. I only want to see the Zoro vs Mihawk fight however because of the hype surrounding it practically since the beginning of the manga

No the reason i think he is underrated is because i don't like the excuses some people try to use to underrate the character

Firstly, Mihawk is Zoro’s endgame goal. We may not know if he indeed will be the final opponent that Zoro faces but that doesn’t necessarily degrade from the fact that acquiring his level of power is Zoro’s ultimate goal. The goal of reaching Mihawk at this stage in the story is meant to derive as much significance and difficulty as Nami’s goal of mapping the entire world or Chopper’s goal of finding a cure for all diseases.

Do people really think Zoro, a character who only resolve around strength, strength and strength would aspire to be someone who is not amongst the best this world has to offer? He already has a great understanding of the powerhouses of this world, whether admirals, yonkos and so on, and he doesn't sweat one bit at the idea of facing either of them, with the later proof when he agreed with Luffy's statement of not backing off against admirals anymore and was actually trying to engage Fujitora in battle, yet his ultimate goal is still Mihawk.

One can’t honestly expect that to be the case seeing who Zoro is as a person (he is more fixated on strength than anyone else in the crew) and the significance he and his goal hold to the story. How can one not undermine the future first mate of the Pirate King if his goal is actually far less than what he can potentially achieve as the Rayleigh of this generation? His benchmark should be someone who he struggles obscenely to reach. I really urge people who disagree with Mihawk’s standing as one of the strongest out there to ponder on this because there is a reason this is the strongest argument.

Ok now here is another common yet highly controversial topic. Mihawk is Shanks’s rival. Yes, I realize this point always gets a lot of flack. However, Mihawk and Shanks both had many duels when they both were already thoroughly respected and established pirates. Their duels would propagate across the entire grand line and even reached Whitebeard of all people’s ears. Infact, the simple fact that even after all these years, the first thing that comes to Whitebeard's mind when seeing Shanks was his duels with Mihawk signifies that it was his most highlighted moment even until yet. This also signifies that they weren’t rookies or something like that when they were rivals. They were already monsters that shook the Grand Line. We also know that the embers of their rivalry still haven’t faded to this day as Shanks still reached for his sword as soon as Mihawk came to his Island. Mihawk’s presence still instilled so much awe and fear in Shanks’s subordinates even though their captain is a Yonkou.

Furthermore, since then there really is no overt evidence suggesting Shanks completely outstripped Mihawk in growth rate. Infact the simple fact that even after many duels, there were no clair winner suggest their potential were
the same, even closer to Ace-Sabo who on the other side are thoroughly respected in terms of battle potential in the one piece community. Their accomplishments also suggest that. Shanks became an emperor when Mihawk became the world’s greatest swordsman. He is not the type to lead. He is a loner who strives for individual brilliance and just as Shanks reached the pinnacle of his path in life Mihawk reached the pinnacle of his own. And I am aware many don’t believe Shanks to be a swordsman so I won’t dwell on why I disagree except to state that it really takes a piss on Mihawk and their rivalry if Shanks was actually holding back his true power and only limiting himself to swordsmanship so he wouldn’t own Mihawk in their duels; a notion that hasn’t remotely been implied and which completely goes against how they are depicted as rivals. Even after more than 800 chapters, they are still depicted as such and we've yet to know for sure who is the stronger one. Even if you think Shanks is stronger, you'd be really naive to think that when their all out will be shown, he'd be far from Mihawk by just looking at their interaction or place in this manga

I’d be remiss if I didn’t delve into the world’s strongest title, another underrated title. Who exactly in the entire manga did Oda decide to give a World Strongest title to? Oda has indeed been extremely sparing in his introduction of someone as the world’s greatest. In fact, only Kaido, Whitebeard, and Dragon have received such an honor and lets be honest, that is some great company Mihawk is standing in. Mihawk is a Shichibukai but he is special in that he has another more substantial title that puts him on a more equal footing to Admirals/Yonkou, even if the rest of the Shichibukai are not. Infact the simple fact that the Shichibukai organization is considered to be equal to the marine HQ in this manga when the apparent second strongest(Doflamingo) isn't even admiral level hypes up Mihawk's strength even more to me because it's the least level of power(actually even more) that he needs to have if the credibility of Shichibukai organization = Marine HQ should be accurate. Infact the way i see it. Infact the way i see it, the strongest Shichibukai should be on top of the admirals similarly to how hierarchically the fleet admiral is towards them as an alternative organisation representative

Hell the simple fact that he aimed at Whitebeard at the beginning of the war shocked the audience with everyone highlighting how shocked they were when his slash got blocked in a paralleled scene with Kizaru. He is also the one who displayed one of the greatest destructive feats in the entire war with a casual swing from kilometer distances. That war had nothing to do with Mihawk however, so his full potential had to be remained hidden.

Finally, let us just look at Rayleigh. He is admiral level or close to it even now(above that in his prime). If not in the distance, he at least is in terms of stats. Shanks is one thing but i don't understand people who think Rayleigh isn't a swordsman. He is Zoro’s parallel, he talked about not using his sword in a while when suddenly thrust in a combat situation, and the main weapon he decided to use against an admiral even when the strawhats were in danger while worrying about how to save them was a sword and Mihawk's title suggest that he is the best in terms of swordsmanship, suggesting that whatever what a swordsman is capable to do with his sword, Mihawk should be able to do it even better. Even if you don’t think Rayleigh is a swordsman(which is already absurd), you have to admit that in his fight against Kizaru he fought him equally as a swordsman and it's as a swordsman that all his stats(with the prerequisites such as physical stats/Haki etc) bar stamina was stalemating Kizaru

Let me repeat: Even if you think Rayleigh isn’t a swordsman exclusively, only with sword skills, he could hold off an admiral, only losing in stamina. That suggest with years back he could have done better, which also suggest that Mihawk canonically should be able to do even better as a much better swordsman than Rayleigh in the prime of his life. Rayleigh is someone implied to be stronger than admirals in his prime and is Zoro's parallel in the crew in almost everything, someone he'd surpass at the same time as Mihawk who is his goal, so naturally i do expect Mihawk to be around those standards

Now i could understand that some people strictly feats-addicts couldn't see this or fail to see this, but i'm telling you beforehand that you're doing a terrible mistake if you think Mihawk won't be that strong and i already feel that the time is coming closer and closer

The guys sends a casual attack at Whitebeard who's far away from him, it cuts through everything in it's path and it still requires one of strongest Whitebeard commanders that too the one with the best defense to stop it yet this guys somehow just barely makes it up to admiral level. :lmao:

I'm sorry but when did luffy ever beat doffy on his own or when was gear 4th by itself enough to defeat him last time I checked he needed to use it twice and after the first time he had to be protected

And also we have not been told what injection shot did to doffy during the battle ...

Overrated with what he's shown so far. I was heavily disappointing with him in MF war.

-Wanted to scale the difference between him a Yonkou, couldn't reach him as the 3rd strongest from the WSM's crew stopped his slash. (Its like portrayal saying his sword doesn't reach WB)
-Fought like the 4th-5th strongest guy in WB's crew to a stalemate
-got intercepted by Crocodile

Dunno what Oda was doing with Mihawk. Lets hope he recovers from whatever the hell he was suffering from, cause prior to that I thought Mihawk would give Yonkous a run for the money.

His feats in MF directly contradicted his hype, that's honestly the problem with Mihawk rn.

Dude :bdpf: The Hype.
Really looking forward to seeing Mihawk get serious.

I really do think that he let luffy go by using them as a bad excuse or was just a whim. Vista is way above crocodile and the result(stalling) Mihawk gave at two opponents of completely different strengths was the same. And that's only possible if he himself decided it.
And again, he stopped at crocodile! who he is just leagues above. So to me this is the best explanation.

I believe that mihawk is as strong as a yonkou because he was able to spar with a 2-handed shanks. After shanks lost his arm mihawk lost interest in him which kind of shows how strong he is
