Censorship of video games

Hey guys in my language class we're having a debate on the censorship of violent/explicit content in video games. What are your thoughts on this, many people said its good to censor to reduce crime, and some others said it was wrong because it goes against the 1st commandment and it stops creativity. What are your thoughts on the matter for both pro and con

Videogames do little to incite violence, rather they act as an outlet for people who have those issues to vent their anger on the video games. The people who commit those heinous crimes have their psychosis already present before video games were played.

Honestly speaking its quite right to censor things like Rapelay ... But there is no point in censoring thing like Doom or CoD. They dont cause crime, its just propaganda to ignore the individual failures that leads to crime.

I am not sure about reductions in crime rate, but maybe those who are in favor of censorship are concerned about people becoming overly desensitized to violence? I don't know, however I am generally opposed to censoring things.

No because censoring is not true to the artist's vision and its ultimately up to the consumer what products they consume. Also, Call of Duty's kill count alone has surpassed the planet's total population, but yet I don't see people blasting people in the streets with their AKs after playing the game.

The kill count and violence in movies is also crazy, what makes them so much better than games?

Gory games doesn't influence your behavior or personality i'm pretty sure your brain can differentiate between a freaking video game and reality other wise you need to go to rehab to sum it up i'm totally against this.

Games are not the only things that induce violence. If they are the cause than what about other forms of media like movies? Shouldn't they be censored as well?

Depends on the censorship.

If say, storm 4 was going to have great detail and blood etc and got censored, I'd be upset.

But if it's something like fire emblem: awakening, where the only thing censored was a characters ass showing... I honestly don't care and no one should.
