Blacks did get the rights they deserved. As its been said earlier in the thread, its up to us to fix the problems in the black community. The solution of "Or Else" and "Separate" don't fix or address the problems and may make them worse. Instead of "Or Else" and separate, why not push for laws that would change the way officers operate so that we don't have them shooting unarmed people? Instead of simply saying "Or Else" and "Separate" why not look at the reasons blacks would kill each other and fix those problems? The government system is democratic. Do you think with this Justice or Else you'll be procuring justice or looking like a fool? You've essentially been opting for self-segregation, not just for blacks but for other races too, and thats untrue to Martin Luther King, our ancestor's, and the people who marched 60 years ago dream of what America is.

In his later life before he was assassinated he started changing how he spoke. He grew. He's the one that were actually getting the boycott Black Friday and Christmas from. Back then it probably ****ing made sense to boycott Black Friday and Christmas because blacks existed in a system which did not favor them. It's civil disobedience that made sense at the time. Alright, so, I'm going to go ahead and put in a sort of final judgment.
The reality is that nothing done in the present can change what has transpired in the past, and reparations cannot stand in place of equality.
When Constitution of the United States was written, the provisions of governing power and the restrictions thereof were intended to apply to all people regardless of nation, ethnicity, or creed. The structure and processes it described were designed to work so long as the will of the people was to abide by the Constitution. America was and is not a nation of Men, but a Nation of Law. If we were to take the U.S. Constitution and it be ratified by nations in Africa where it was to become the law of the land - it should work as well as it has for America (at least until we butchered it in the early 1900s with the Federal Reserve and the New Deal in the 1930s that established the welfare state and forever expanded the centralized authority of the federal government).
Likewise - people of any ethnic origin can move to and live in America while enjoying equal protection under the law. Even if there are localized exceptions to this, there are laws from higher authorities, as enforced by the larger population, to penalize districts that enact prejudiced behavior.
It has never been perfect, but it has been one of the most successful models in known human history, and populations from around the world have settled into America and become indistinguishable from America, itself. Ethnic and cultural diversity is celebrated - I just ate at an Asian buffet this evening. This area is also known for its authentic Mexican restaurants. While that may sound somewhat shallow - food is where society begins, as we can all relate to the need to sustain our existence and can appreciate how other cultures have gone about it.
Americans have long lived in a culture of self-determination and of self-made people. We love stories of the common man rising above and beyond what he would be expected to do - the "zero to hero" stories (which are not just popular in America, but you can find many stories of such in our history - including from within black communities). We enjoy seeing others succeed - to see their efforts and their labor rewarded.
That said, there is nothing that can be done to change the circumstances of one's birth. There are people who are born into families who do not have the affluence that others have. There are people who are born to parents who do not have an interest in their children. No act of government can change this, nor can any sweeping act of government compensate for the detriment these people feel.
That is why people should be free. We are free to help each other where and when it is appropriate. We are free to pursue endeavors that can improve our lives. A migrant from Germany who went from owning a factory to plowing a field can't expect to send his children to the best private schools in the land. He can, however, do his best to teach his children to integrate with the society around, to pass on valuable trade knowledge, and to see his children improve their standing - and perhaps be able to send their grandchildren to the best private schools.
The idea that equality translates to equal outcomes is just flawed. Culture plays a large role in how individuals exercise their freedoms - which determines much about the performance of their demographic on the whole. Further, the idea that people must meet certain performance metrics in order to feel 'fulfilled,' 'happy,' or 'satisfied' with life is also incorrect. I grew up going to family camp-outs with people who were likely within the poverty bracket in terms of income. They still knew how to have a blast, and, in many ways, enjoyed living a lifestyle where income wasn't a huge factor in how they went about living (there are still many rural parts where people do more or less live off of the land or through bartered trade).
All of the society we see around us was constructed from people who were born as little more than hunter gatherers. From the development of agriculture to the formulation of math and into the foundations of scientific reasoning - all of it was built from nothing. It should, therefor, not be the objective of any people to immediately achieve parity following adversity, but to improve generation by generation until they have achieved parity... and even once they have, to realize that every person is endeavoring to improve his or her own self beyond the generation that spawned them.
Equality is the freedom to seek that individual pursuit as free from institutional obstruction as reasonably possible. Then it is up to each individual to experience success and failure as part of the individual experience.

Consider this story of the ancient Hebrews and the sins of Achan (Joshua 7).
After the Hebrews were delivered from Egypt and crossed over the Jordan river, they literally just had to show up for battle and they would take great cities. They marched around Jericho seven times for seven days and the walls fell down. The Lord, however, commanded that the Hebrews not take any of the gold or silver for it had belonged to a corrupt people who had devoted these things to their false gods and idols.
After securing Jericho the Hebrews sought to establish themselves in the promised land. They immediately suffered an embarrassing defeat at Ai and were chased back into Jericho by a much smaller and weaker army.
The Lord told His people that now wasn't the time to start marching around again. They had to look introspectively, look within, because in their midst, within the family of Achan was sin and deceit.
Joshua confronted Achan and it was true: the man had taken 100 pieces of silver and a gold bar from the raid on Jericho. The family was turned over to the Lord for punishment and the people repented. Then, and only then, did Israel again enjoy God's favor in battle. Ai was delivered into their hands as well as many more Canaanite strongholds.
Do you see, OP, if you have eyes that see and an ear to hear, how this is not a time for million man marches and looking for an external enemy?
Do you see how we have to deal with the sins of Achan? The strongholds we have to tear down are wearing "snitches get stitches" T-shirts.
Do you hear people say they're afraid of the cops but never afraid to film one up close? Where are the videos of car jackings, drive-bys, or shootouts? Or the calls into a police tip line? There are none because people are afraid of the criminals in their midst.
Or do you believe Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. when he says this is the promised land? White AND Black.
