Kiba sees Gaara dashing at him at full speed, he quickly reacts by channling his Earth chakara infront of him, which causes a pillar to rise infront of him and protect him from Gaara, and at the same time, another sharp pillar rises from infront of the pillar that Kiba made and rushes Gaara to pierce his chest area for instant death.

As Gaara was running in a circle around Kiba, he knew that Gaara was going to attempt to strike him in close range, so Kiba focused his Earth chakra in case Gaara was indeed going to.

All of a sudden Gaara ran towards Kiba while raising his elbow to strike Kiba's face, Kiba smirked and Formed a Shield around his face just in the last second, causing Gaara to slam his elbow against a rock solid shield and causing huge damage to it.

Even though Kiba was blinded by the flash bombs, he knew that Gaara was not injured by Akamaru's attack, because he didn't smell blood with his Inuzuka smelling sense.

Kiba knew that Gaara will take advantage of the Flash bombs to strike him, so he quickly focused his Earth chakra under him and pushed himself upwards against the pillar that rose from beneath him, and threw 2 Kunais at Gaara, and yelled for Akamaru to stay behind while Gaara was busy.

When Kiba noticed that Gaara wasn't hit with the Kunais, by not smelling any blood with his Inuzuka smelling sense, he knew that Gaara was probably going to strike him while in the air, so as soon as Kiba started regaining his sight slightly, he quickly noticed a Wooden log on the ground which he quickly used as a substitution jutsu to eliminate any possibilities of Gaara landing anything on him and guaranteeing that Kiba would be on the ground again.
