What if Itachi would have joined the Uchiha Clan and supported their coup d'état?
He would only succeed if he made a deal with Obito to annihilate Konoha instead of the Uchiha. Obito has access to White Zetsu who can be disguised as villagers similar to how they were used in the war. At this point, there is no one in Konoha who would be able to distinguish the White Zetsu from Konoha villagers or shinobi. The coup would succeed but they still would not have been able to stop war from breaking out.

That's only if Obito decided to help him. He wanted the Uchiha destroyed as well. But other than that I agree with you here.
Hiruzen would gave him **** raping
Danzo (being as paranoid as he was) probably still would have struck first, and whether he lived or died root would jump in too. After that the battle would have gotten out of control and drawn in the rest of Konoha as well.
The Uchiha really only had Itachi and Shisui for strength while Konoha had dozens of accomplished jonins and ANBU to counter. So in the end I think the Uchihas would still have devastated Konoha but ultimately would lose. Then another country would have came in for the scraps.
Then the Leaf Village would've became The United Republic Of Itachi.
And Shisui would be the First Lady.
