It was said that Nagato originally was going to revive Madara.

The question I have though is how would he have revived Madara?

I began thinking and I wonder if Obito would have been the body (forced by his zetsu body) to bring back Madara essentially getting rid of Pain and Obito at the same time.

Thoughts?

But doesn't Heavenly life technique require a body?

It's inconsistent. Don't try to rationalize it. Madara should have been revived wherever his corpse was buried, and not in his Edo bossy. .. but that would derail the plot.

BZ would have forced Nagato like he did with Obito in the manga to bring Madara back. Whether it be Nagato or Obito that wouldn't matter for a Savage like BZ because if he was hell bent on bringing back Kaguya via Madara then he would strike when Nagato was left weak to revive Madara.
