'ive heard some the theories saying captain kid would be the "whitebeard" of this generation while luffy the "roger" but we all know that whitebeard was a "good" pirate one that set out to sea to form a family and kid is Definitely a horrible guy that kills civilians for no reason, he has to be captured!
and that's where coby and helmeppo come in, i'm guessing they'll be the ones to defeat kid and killer and send them to impel down thus placing coby up for a promotion either to vice admiral of HQ or even ADMIRAL!
and in that fight we get to see if coby is ready to challenge luffy and zoro!
also i think law is the "whitebeard" of this generation, he has already fufilled he's main reason for becoming a pirate (defeat Doflamingo) and also he and luffy are good friends just like roger and whitebeard.
and i think kid would be the "shiki" of this generation who was captured by garp and sengoku "coby and helmeppo" and sent to impel down and then later escapes!!!

It's not mandatory that every generation had a Roger and an Edward...

If anyone, it's Law who is most appropriate for the place because Law doesn't seem a guy interested in One Piece and he won't get in Luffy's way... Kidd will definitely do the opposite and preferably I want their face off after Luffy has dealt with Teach...

It actually will be exciting for me, because we would know how good Coby is, also we don't need another time skip to make him closer lo Luffy lvl. Maybe he will do it after he become VA (just like Garp), then he got promoted became Admiral and he received it (just like Sengoku). Because Coby is mix between Garp and Sengoku.

Nah .. it same goes for Luffy now (Is Luffy: Roger of this generation?)... they will become stronger at some point an reach the peak.
