It's like what they do to the Rinnegan Summons. It's his vision link he gains when he summons animals. They don't have the abilities, but the link when he summons, thus getting Rinnegan.

All Summon creatures have a name, it just that sometimes Kishi forgets in the Manga to let us know the name. And that may be due to Him mostly having The Toads and Dogs uses so much.
