Can Tsukuyomi kill?

This was inspired by one of the banners of Itachi about to kill a "Uchiha spawn" in the Uchiha massacre.

Do you think he spammed that to avoid killing the younger ones, that is if it can even kill?

It causes mental damage and induces a coma like state. I don't think it can kill per say. Itachi hasn't used it with intent to kill tho

The jutsu itself isn't physically deadly. It's a genjutsu just like any other genjutsu. It effects your mind. But the difference with Tsukuyomi is that it leaves such a mental scar on the human psyche. It won't kill you, but it has the possibility to temporarily or permanently traumatize you.
