[Suggestion] Giving Reputation Points a Purpose

I was thinking reputation points could have additional uses. What I had in mind was being able to cash them in for bonus'.

For example x amount of points, when traded in, gives you x benefit for a certain amount of time. I was thinking benefits such as larger avatar, though I'm sure there are plenty of other ways to use it.

When I say cash in I also don't mean in the User CP the amount of Rep you have declines, just the amount of redeemable rep. To me it would give it a new, fresh purpose.

I also understand it could provoke people spamming rep to gain the benefits, so obviously a way to limit that would need to be be devised further than the limit placed on who you can rep over time.

Feel free to post any other rewards for rep points that you could think of, and possible solutions to reduce rep being spammed among people to get the benefits.

Rep has no real value in the community and I don't think it will ever be redeemable for forum perks. If you want a larger avy or more sig space, buy premium or win a contest.

Though regarding the contest or just buy premium, the idea was also a way for people with no skills in gfx (as that's what most involve) or the funds etc to purchase premium, it provides a way to achieve some of the perks premium gives.

I understand, but using rep as a means to it wouldn't really work as it's not something redeemable. Working on suggestions that can help members without GFX skills is something completely different. I'm guessing if some members came together and worked out an even or contest that doesn't require such skills the admins would consider it.

Well I won't try and push my point much further, as I can see where you're coming from.

As for a new contest idea, which wouldn't be a bad idea, is there a set criteria contests need to meet? Asking so if I get some people to help come up with one we know where to start etc.

Not that I know of. But of course, contests need to abide by forum rules. They need to be something that can be done inside of NB and be fair for all participants. You can work out an idea and PM an admin for their input or post it here as a suggestion. Most of times, the things wrong with a suggestion will be highlighted so the member(s) can work on those things. Make a clear idea of what you want and work from there.

BTW, I don't want to sound rude or anything. Not sure if it's conveyed that way. Your suggestion isn't bad. It's just no possible to use rep that way.

Rep is easily abused, we don't want forum perks to be the outcome of forum abuse either.
