Well, one is an off-the-grid, roguish reincarnation of Indra Ōtsutsuki who possesses an Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan in one eye socket and a Rinnegan in the other, and a very wide arsenal of different types of Ninjutsu on top of that. One is a guy who fought alongside the 7th Hokage against Obito Uchiha, Madara Uchiha, and Kaguya Ōtsutsuki. One is a guy who battled against and defeated Deidara of the Akatsuki and Danzō Shimura who was slated to be the 6th Hokage. A guy who trained under two legendary ninjas, Kakashi Hatake and Orochimaru.
I think part of that has to do with the fact that Kakashi takes his role as a sensei more seriously than Jiraiya did. With Jiraiya it seemed like half the time he cared more about creeping on women than he did about teaching Naruto new jutsus. Kakashi made a couple jokes here and there, but I definitely think he embraced his role as teacher more than Jiraiya did.
That's a baseless assumption. You can't declare this as fact/conclusion, and not provide a sound argument that supports your claim. Your premises have to be factual, and correlate before you declare a conclusion to be true. Otherwise, it's a self fulfilling prophecy.
Here's an example. I could say that Sai, is an Uchiha. That's my conclusion. My premises are that Sai looks like Sasuke (an Uchiha) and not all Uchiha have sharingan. Therefore, Sai is an Uchiha, until proven otherwise.
Here's another example. The Inzauka Clan uses dogs for ninjutsu, Kakashi uses dog summons, Naruto stated that Kakashi's nose is as sharp as Kiba's. Therefore, Kakashi is a member of the Inazuka Clan until proven otherwise.
You see the problem? I've taken facts, and twisted them to suit my theories. I ostensibly started from a conclusion, and looked for facts in order to make my conclusions true.
I'm only portraying that since Naruto is extremely busy, he never had time to train his son. Which goes along with the story, since Boruto is a Prodigy, he didn't really need a teacher. But because he lacked motivation, he didn't hone his own skills.
But Boruto doesn't feel frustrated and neglected by Naruto for never teaching him anything. He feels neglected because Naruto is so busy and doesn't have time for family, like he did before becoming Hokage. Ninjutsu and being a shinobi are not big priorities for Boruto.
Clones are Naruto's will. Naruto (Main) probably wanted to play and spend time with his son. Notice it was Shikamaru, Naruto's adviser and councilor who told Boruto to stop pestering his dad. Hilarious coming from Shika, because he should be keep the same hours as Naruto and working just as much.
Boruto's wears Naruto's jacket towards the end of the movie, they still establish he isn't Naruto at all though.
They also establish that Boruto isn't a prankster by nature, nor a person who likes mischief. In fact that's a keen difference between them both. Unlike Naruto, Boruto only throws that side of him towards his father, because he wants him to look in his direction.
Shadow clones and Rasengan are all they share, but even then they use it differently:
Boruto doesn't spam Shadow clones, in fact he uses them in strategic ways in the exams
Boruto doesn't spam the Rasengan in his fights, nor does his wind release Rasengan operate like FRS
Factor that in with his Gentle Fist Taijutsu, two other elemental natures, and shuriken jutsu. Calling him a Naruto clone is a joke.
It was a figurative comparison. Kishi gave Boruto and Naruto all the same tools and cosmetic appearances, and only deviate in their mind sets. Show Naruto and Boruto to non fans, and I doubt they could tell them apart.
I doubt it's that secretive. The hand signs for the technique is a literal plus sign ... Do you think Boruto is some kind of idiot who can't even figure out how to make that hand sign and practice making a copy of himself?
That's why the technique was in a Hokage Forbidden Scroll, in part 1. And no, there is more to Kage Bushin than just putting your fingers together and shouting "Kage Bushin No Jutsu". You have to build chakra, mold chakra, get the details of what you are making correct, weave the signs, and relegate an amount of chakra to each specific clone.
Think about the logic you are proposing. Boruto figured out how to do his father's signature jutsu, with no instruction, just by watching him do it. From what we've seen in Gaiden and Boruto TM, it seems to be Boruto's most used jutsu.
Question: If Naruto is so busy, when would Boruto have time to see Naruto use the jutsu, and for Boruto to observe and copy it?
Follow up: Why would Boruto use his father's signature jutsu, if he has access to suiton, raiton, futon jutsus?
If Boruto has other options for ninjutsu, it's odd that he would preach this total rejection of Naruto's philosophy, but still use his father's best moves. It's more likely that Naruto taught Boruto kage bushin and how to use them/coordinate with them in battle.
Funny enough the novel version of the movie says nothing of Boruto learning the Kage Bunshin technique from anyone, in fact they even go out to say Boruto tried to learn the Rasengan by watching someone else do it, he failed of course since he was trying to recreate the technique from sight rather than learning the essential steps. It just goes to show you that this boy got to where he did by his own talent, rather than hard work. Make no mistake, while he did try to learn the Rasengan by himself, he quit after a few tries instantly (novel).
Novel canoncity is dubious when it comes from a property that exists as a film first. Like reading a Star Trek novelization or comic of a movie and trying to correlate the details. People who work on novels and or tie-in comics are given the equivalent of the cliff notes version of a film and from that, are allowed to weave whatever story they want. As long as it ends the same.
I use Star Trek, because it is the most egregious offender in this regard. Where the people writing the comics and books made up their own mythology regarding backstories for characters (mainly villains), abilities of starships used, motivations and body counts during the struggle. Then you watch the movie and none of the aforementioned details are in it. Instead the movie version of events never displays what happens on the pages, and uses different motivations and backstories for characters. Why? Because the people working on the movies, don't collaborate with people work on the books. The people doing the movies don't read the books or comics, so they don't try to make what happens in them (Books/comics) fit their story on screen. Now, the writers of the movie name's might be on the comic/book, but that's because they have to credit them the ideas from the script the comic/book writers saw.
And you can't prove that Naruto didn't teach him anything. The math on this is quite simple. Just like deducing where Sarada got CES, Chocho body manipulation, Inojin scroll art, and Shikadai w/ shadow capture.
Other than the fact that the labeled him as a Genius who can do anything when he sets his mind to it, plus, they state throughout the movie that he is lazy, unmotivated, and doesn't train at all.
Being 12 and having futon, raiton and suiton release, is a prodigy feat.
Remember when we all though Boruto had chidori, and how hyped we were? Then it was revealed to be a trick of editing in the trailer?
Remember when we saw those brief clips of Boruto fighting Shikadai and other people in the Chunin exams? And then it was revealed that Boruto had been cheating the entire time with a bracelet that does ninjutsu for him.
Boruto is no Neji, Orochimaru, or Itachi. He's got talent, that's a fact, but doesn't work to temper it. Even geniuses like Sasuke spent weeks learning elemental releases (fire as a child, lighting at 12) and the jutsus to perform them.
Boruto has a step (maybe several) above his classmates due to the genetic lottery he won. However, he doesn't have the motivation to make the most of what he's got. Hard work toward any craft is essential. So, he definitely has an arc to go through. Which is nice.
I wouldn't say Kakashi is better than Jiraiya. Kakashi had one job, that was turn Team 7 into a unit and teach them the craft of shinobi. Kakashi only focused on Sasuke, never taught Sakura anything, and only told Naruto that the rasengan was an incomplete technique; but Naruto himself would have to figure out his element and learn to combine it with rasengan.
Jiraiya trained Minato, Naruto, Nagato, Yahiko, Konan and others, and imparted shinobi skills, as well as shinobi philosophy. Look at how he instructed Naruto and compare to how Kakashi instructed him. Jiraiya illustrated what Naruto's weaknesses were, and his strengths. Also he told Naruto, that with his chakra reserves he should focus on power, before control. Since waste isn't an issue. Other things like mastering the jutsu he knows, instead of learning a whole bunch of jutsu (like Orochimaru) and becoming proficient at executing them.
