skilled villain or powered up villain?

The thing is that because Naruto revolves around fighting, since this is the case most of the characters have been made redundant because they are nowhere near Sasuke and Naruto. This makes the whole story stale. One reason why it becomes stale is because we want the fights to get better, when you get use to seeing Sasuke and Naruto busting countries It seems pointless to watch Ten-Ten throw weapons (like actual ninjas are suppose to do).

What I wanted from Naruto is a final villain that is stronk, not because he/she has a lot of something(Chakra,Jutsu) but because the person is just very skilled in combat. The best battles we see from Naruto are battles that had a great balance between power and skill.

Examples being:
Itachi vs Sasuke

Deidara vs Sasuke

and Gaara vs Rock Lee.

If the final villan was really stronk because he/she was just skilled then the whole story would have had a more realistic and premium quaility to it.

The difference between Edo Madara and JJ Madara is that Edo Madara used his whole body and used skill whereas JJ just stood in place and threw op jutsus out. Who would your rather have a powered up villain or a villain that is stronk because of skill?

Skilled Villain. I like Edo Madara way more than his other forms.

Yes, Edo Madara and one Rinnegan non-JJ Madara were badass.

EXACTLY!!! Right here!
Prime Madara was ten times the badass as pre-shanked JJ Madara.

It turned for the worst after Kishi lost his editor.

In truth it's not their fault - overpowered villains in today's mainstream manga are hitched to the arrogant and lazy side of the personality spectrum, for the simple reason that they overestimate their strength and underestimate their opponent's. In turn this allows the main characters to surprise the OP villain and with help from plot defeat them. OP villains have to be restricted (like Madara) by the author, and thus It's befitting of them to be arrogant and lazy/laid-back. The author gives them this personality because when they're defeated then readers will blame their personality; this is the authors attempt to mask the fact he restricted said villain from going full power - but of course smarter readers would realise this.

As for skilled villains, well they're certainly not arrogant an lazy. Because they tend to be slightly stronger than the main character (and so put up an actual fight unlike OP villains which stand around and throw out OP Jutsus), the author doesn't give them that arrogant and laid back personality. With a little help from plot the skilled villains are defeated.

I agree completely, the story began to get super linear and the intricacy of the fights declined to the point that it was literally all about getting upgraded eyes and stronger chakras.

Gone is the day of fights like itachi vs sasuke and jiraiya vs pain and exploring the world around them.

It seems that when madara became a jin, he didn't feel like getting his hands dirty, so decides to throw op jutsus.

a combination of both... because a skilled vilian without power is useless and a powered up villain without skill is the same.

Rather than Skill vs Power... it should be restricted vs unrestricted...

To me Edo Madara and One Rinnegan SM Madara were both skilled and Overpowered back in the day. I like that combo but If I had to choose one then it would be skill.

Skilled. Power doesnt mean anything if you dont utilize it properly. Powerhouses like Kaguya, Toneri and Momo got negged laughably despite have god like abilities. Especially Momo.

But, how would a super skilled character... like sharingan-less Kakashi fair against those powerhouses?

it took powerhouses to bring those powerhouses down...right?
