Effects of Oro Absorption

When Sasuke defeated Oro in his genjutsu world he absorbed Oro, but what changed in Sasuke? I can't remember any new abilities that he gained. And wasn't he able to use snakes before he absorbed him?

Yea he used it against Itachi and took up almost all the chakra he had left.
