Yes it should have ended with 699 + Naruto becoming Hokage. They could have taken out the entire new generation + the pairing crap. It was unnecessary af. The main characters of this show were Naruto and Sasuke and to see them becoming friends again was enough for most fans olus Naruto achieving his dream.

i would have liked a time skip way into the future like 100+ years and everyone is just living peacefully and theres like a statue of Naruto in the centre of the village which calls him their strongest hokage and like a jinchurriki sage or something. i see your point. Naruto had that hero's welcome, and it felt like an ending, but the main conflict of the story wasn't resolved. 699 would have been enough.
