I have to agree with femme here, Sakura could most likely knock the kyuubi out with her shanoroo, and full katsyu can probably cover the whole village thus making it easy to protect everyone at once. Such outstanding analysis from Mrs.Femme. This is just too much for my brain to comprehend.

I was mostly considering defeating Kurama in general, not really saving the village.

Even Hiruzen would have gotten the village destroyed without Minato.

So yes, Sakura could physically subdue the Kyuubi, but she couldn't simultaneously protect the village populace.

I can see her protecting them all by using Katsuya (did I spell that right?), while shinobi try to seal the beast.
