[Debate] Is it lying or is it the truth?

What I bring to you is this....

It is common sense to know if you ask someone a question they know the answer to and they answer incorrectly they are lying.
But what if the person believe they are telling the truth? is it still lying. Example;

Lets say You kill someone, Evidence points to you but you do not remember doing so( you loose your memory in another incident) Then you are brought before the court and asked if you murdered that person and you deny it- this just an example guys don't get carried away.

Would that be like some form of unconscious Lying or would It be telling the truth based on what you believe and remember?

Not remembering something that you did and vice-versa is a form of Dissociation, and this would be found in modern lie-detectors. Not remembering something that you did would show up in the back of your brain, as you're trying to remember an event, thus would not be considered lying.

Example: a woman kills a man but in the struggle suffers blunt force trauma to the head and is granted Anterograde Amnesia. She would not remember that she killed the man, even though she did, thus she would not be considered lying to the court. To lie is to consciously know that you're lying.

I would Give you an award for this response. I was swayed into this direction. The meaning of the word lie is what give this away. Now that you figured that out. I have one more question for you and anyone who would dare answer

Say guy1 had intent to kill and Motive to kill Guy2 But he has no memory of this afterwards.
he is currently a Blank page but all evidence points out his intent to kill and his motive.

Would you (being the sentencer) prosecute him for murder still.
And how would you sentence him? Think about this one

he is currently a Blank page but all evidence points out his intent to kill and his motive.

Would you (being the sentencer) prosecute him for murder still.
And how would you sentence him? Think about this one

He'd be sentenced normally. It doesn't matter that his memory is not there if there is enough evidence that he did it.

No, it is not lying if you don't remember the event, as then it would not be intentional. Your statement being intentional is the major prerequisite for you to be considered "lying".

Losing your memory doesn't magically erase your crimes/actions from the history, it just erases your own consciousness about your own actions but not anyone else's awareness about you or anything that happened that was relating to you. If evidence are there then he is still guilty, and therefore I agree with Pumpkin, he should normally be sentenced like other criminals.

This is all moral concept and it's getting into complicated technicalities. If u are intending falsehood (to clarify lying is not necessarily wrong e.g. If a gunman broke into the house and you lied to say no one else was in when the other residents had managed to hide. Falsehood is wrong, whether that is a lie e.g. I didn't steal X, or just deceit by allowing or manipulating someone to a false opinion e.g. After you stole X you told people how you saw y and z near the crimescene) then you are behaving in a morally incorrect way, if you don't intend it then you're not
