Okay my friend asked a great question and I expanded on it.

Why do we try to survive even though as of now there is a 100 % chance or extremely close to that figure, that we will die?

I expanded on it by saying: Early on we try to survive because we want to pass on our genetic information, later on we want to make sure our successor/s survive until they reach adulthood but I had no other reason after that.

This would apply to other animals too not just humans. You can't really say to enjoy life becauae that would not apply to a lot of other animlas even though they try to survive regardless.

Do you have the answer to end off my statements?

To experience life.

The good and the bad.

Not just to pass on genetic information but to pass on life experience.

To survive you need only food and water .. possibly somewhere to live.

Those are the only thing you really need to survive.

Everything else is irrelevant oppose to those.

Cheap shit answer. You pass on life experiences when your kid is growing up. I asked after the kid grows up why do we still cling on?

Also I don't live to experience the bad so your point is invalid.

1. Fear of death and fear of not accomplishing our goals and bringing upon our own legacy.

To experience it. The feeling of eating, the pleasure of resting, the relief of a drink of water.

You'll die one day, but you never really know if there's something else coming, and what matters is the chance you had to experience life.

And I thought we couldn't get a worse answer than Okami's.

Its probably because of dna that gives us those survival instincts. We also fear the unknown and the possibility of losing our identity.

Self preservation.

Since we will surely die, another way of self perservation is to pass on our genes. So we live to pass on our genes.

So yes, we live to give a fu*k.

Then we live on so that we can make sure that our genes will make it through till they pass on their (our) genes

All animals have instinct to survive and reproduce. But let's flip the question round, why would someone choose death over life?

What's the alternative to life? Nothing. Would you rather sense or sense nothing? Because that's what death is: sensing nothing and having nothing to sense.

Because we have no memory of any form of being and experiencing outside our physical manifestation. It's a leap in the unknown and that's too scary. I guess the only times you can get close to having a peek at what you, perhaps, could expect after death is a DMT trip.

I always thought it's because he have that basic survival instinct in our DNA.

Something seems wrong with both of those reasons. It implies you're alive for no other purpose than procreating which is true from a biological perspective but biology is merely one aspect of life. I don't believe that my sole purpose for existing and trying to survive is for someone else, that completely dismiss the person that matter first and foremost which is myself. To live for someone else is the same as being dead.

I think a post such as Dr. Gilgamesh's is as far as you're going to get if you want an answer for the most rudimentary level of life (cells). But as far as higher levels of life are concerned, I believe pain is a great motivator. That hunger animals feel? Not so good. Getting hurt during conflict with other wild life? Not so good. Remembering that pain while seeing one of its buddies get torn to shreds? Not so good. There's thirst, the effects of extreme weather, and other situations that will compel the brain to avoid it.

Though this gets me curious as to whether cells are just reacting to negative or positive external influences in their own ways.

I'm sure an animals can't really imagine a scenario where it dies without experiencing pain or some displeasure. Even if it just wanted to die by doing nothing, it'll surely experience hunger and thirst first.

Even drowning doesn't feel good. Until humans became creative with technology and medicine, it's like death has discouraged the body at every attempt saying, "stay out of here!"

This is at least one of the reasons.
