[Question] Is Film Z or Zypher cannon?

I just finished watching the movie and I'm wondering since it features Kuzan and gives background information on the Admirals. Was the movie or even maybe just Z cannon?

Nope, none of the movies are canon as far as I remember. Though, sanji's lighter from the movie was the same in the manga after the time-skip apparently.

Unsure :/ People say it's not canon, and the Navy in our main series haven't mentioned once about Z, instead, they did make note of Shiki, hence the history of Shiki in Strong World is considered canon, but it's unlikely in Film Z. Although Oda oversees both movies.

The golden lighter Sanji used in Film Z, which also shown in manga is an appreciation (or probably a commercial XD like Amani suits that Luffy, Zoro, Sanji, and Brook have worn in Film Z) of Oda's expensive product design for DuPont company. Or is it Du Pon? DuPon? Whichever. "Sleeping Mermaid", expensive one, and a limited edition at that u_u

Your correct. The backstories are cannon but the parts where the characters return and wreck havoc is not.

In the chronicle of Z (which is a timeline of Z's life) its confirmed by Oda that the one who cut Z's arm became a shichibukai.

He is actually right. One Piece Volume 1000. A pirate killed Z's family and then later, a pirate who cut of his arm became a warlord which is why Z defected. I got mixed up with the family part.

So tell me, what does Oda gain by going into detail who cut off Z's arm and when it happened and also linking it to the only unrevealed shichibukai and releasing that info by two separate sources where he was directly involved in ?

He can only shoot himself in the foot by doing it like that if he doesn't plan to use it in the manga. Therefore it's 99% sure canon, the shichibukai just hasn't appeared yet.

If it wasn't important who cut off that arm Oda wouldn't have made a big deal about it. But apparently it's someone very strong with a cutting ability.

Yes except that example only further proves my point because all the serious things mentioned in SBS often made it to the manga at some point.

With the exception of the obvious stuff like draw whitebeard's dog etc.

There is no point for Oda to go in that much detail because he will fuc.k himself over later on in the story, he could've dodged that introduction by writing a million different things as the great story teller that he is.
