Actuallly he didn't. Kaidou visited fishman island where he ate tons of candies and got obese. On his way back he encountered shanks where he made fun of his ugly face and obesity just before war so kaidou got angry and noticed shank's abs which made him very jealous. So he took up new years resolution of burning his extra fat and became a look-a-like or big brother of hajruddin, but it cost him 2 years as make up was also unavailiabe in fishman island.:bdpf:

What? Where does it say shanks defeated Kaidou? If I remember correctly it seems they just stalemated and kept Kaidou at bay, because shanks only had minor injuries from the fight despite being a yonko vs yonko fight so unless shanks is significantly stronger than Kaidou they probably just had a little skirmish until Kaidou saw that shanks wasn't budging so he just went to do other things (possibly persuaded by shanks) or he got bored and left.

Kaidou is the big brother of Fujitora they even look alike, and he ate all the candy? That could explain why they couldn't pay big mom her full candies and why big mom was about to thrash fisherman island :bdpf:, dat Kaidou :Sparks:

They fought each other but shanks never beat kaidou, they just came under the terms

Did he defeat him though ? as far as I remember Shanks only intercepted him.

Same thing happened with Shanks and Whitebeard pretty much. Shanks tried to stop WB from going after Teach and tried to talk him out of it while bringing a cup of sake.

WB got intercepted by Shanks but there also was no fight.

Kaidou just got stopped by Shanks and he succesfully stopped him from going after WB.

What do yonkous have to gain if they clash ? I'm pretty sure if they don't 100% have to that the won't fight over small matters.

OT: Shanks never defeated Kaido. That was never stated in the manga.
