Well for starters getting rid of the Uchiha was the best thing because you didn't want another Madara type of Uchiha to pop up and terrorize the village. The only mistake he made was to let Danzo's authority override his. Also you forget that he told Itachi to make a wise choice. If Itachi chose to side with Danzo, Hiruzen can't do anything about it. The Uchihas and Danzo are to blame for their clans downfall. Hiruzen tried the best he could to protect the village.

(1) You don't commit genocide in hopes of evading the chance of someone powerful arsing from that specific group with sinister goals or goals of dominance. Using your logic, the Egyptians were justified in murdering every Jewish newborn (male) because of the fear of losing their slaves and way of life to based on a powerful prominent man (Moses) arising, that's barbaric reasoning. (2) I'm glad you agree that Hiruzen allowed Danzo's athority to trump his but you also need to understand that Hiruzen allowing that makes him a terrible Hokage to a degree. He had the ultimate authority/last say at then end of the day not Danzo! (3) The same applies to "Hiruzen asking him to make nthe right choice" that again implies that his position as a Hokage and decision making revolved around Itachi's say so. Its almost like your saying that he passed down his responsibilities to Itachi because he wasn't built to handle it. (4) And yes, if Hiruzen knew what was going to transpire based off of Danzo's orders and Itachis actions he could have intervied. The 3d ain't no bish!

that's where you're wrong. Naruto was the one who saved the village. Orochimaru might have fought Hiruzen, but various sources during and before that assault established Gaara as being the one that was supposed to destroy Konoha. So no.
