There's no plot hole. Nagato massively exerted himself returning all the souls back that were being kept in the King of Hell to the point where his hair turned grey. And as it has been stated by Obito and probably even Madara, Rinne Tensei sacrifices the user's life.

If this really is an attempt at a joke, it fails because:

a) a plot on its own only refers to small piece of ground.
b) it can only work if you say a "plot of land" but then that wouldn't fit with the original quip, and therefore cannot work.
