School governors have sacked a philosophy teacher from his job after discovering his secret life - as a blood smeared death metal rock singer.

By day shaven-headed Thomas Gurrath, 29, discussed ethics with his 14-year-old pupils at his high school in Stuttgart.

But by night he calls himself The Bloodbeast and writhes around on stage covered in animal blood with topless backing singers and his band Debauchery.

The band's biggest hits include 'Kill Maim Burn' and 'Torture Pit'.

"It was very worrying to listen to his music and then realise he was teaching our children," said one parent.

Shocked officials ordered Gurrath to quit saying his performances were a form of mental instability that made him unsafe to be around children.

They ordered him to choose between teaching and his music - saying he could no longer teach anywhere in Baden-Wuerttemberg state unless he gave up the band.

But Gurrath said he was too addicted to death metal music to quit and agreed to give up his career as a teacher instead.

I think that sucks, you shouldnt be able to fire a guy just because he likes metal and to sing in animal blood.... what happened to human rights and freedom of speach and all that crap, its descrimination :|

I hate it when crap like this happens

Awesome teacher ^x^ he reminds me of my Religion teacher:p

I understand that the parents are worried, however school and private life are two completely different things. If they never had any problem with him teaching before they knew it, then what's the problem now?

When I went to school they always clearly stated that things that happen outside the school and outside the school hours aren't the responsibility of the school. That's why we couldn't go outside unless you had permission.

a total hypocracy of human rights he is free to express himself on stage but because hes a teacher hes a desruptive influence hes doing what he wants to do are they afraid kids might get the same idea and be (shocked) "diferent" the stage show might be extreme but it is a form of expression. look at alice cooper he was banned in england cause of this conservitive old lady but still got to play sticking to his ideals. and of the guys stage show i have heard more extreme than that. people should wake the hell up theres worse things than that in the world war poverty medicore tv lame pop and rock stars.

It all comes down to the question of "Was him being in that band affect his ability to teach kids?" It did not appear to me the parents, students, and faculty of the school had any problem with him prior to learning about the band.

Metal concerts like the one the teacher is doing usually from my understanding require an age of 18+, so none of his students would be able to see him and his band anyway.

I honestly don't think that his music had anything to do with teaching. Maybe if he was bringing the music into the classroom and wasted 'class time' with it then I could see people getting upset. But besides that.. It's just dumb.

Metal FTW xd

That's the same as the singer of Bullet for my Valentine, secretly being a teacher in an not famous town or city, to teach kids, kill time and earn some extra money.

I'm sure a lot of people won't mind having him as a teacher. xDDDDDDD

They have the right to fire any person under them for any reason as long as it isn't against the law. They presented a choice towards him to make their school better. This choice was driven upon the fact that a teacher with that sort of life style might present a lower quality of high school learning to students and if he chose to quit the band he would have stayed. Either way it sucks, but that is how it is.

Seniority, power, and life styles all play a part of employment. Sometimes you can't have your dream and your job at the same time.
