Because with the exceptions of Guy, Kakashi with sharingan, and Hiashi most of the Leaf Jonin are nothing special.

Asuma
Kurenai
Ebisu
Shizune
Anko
Yamato
Ibiki
Inochi
Shikaku
Chouza
Tsume
Genma

If there was an all out war with, say the best from either Kumo, Kiri or Tschui, the Konoha Jonin would lose.

There's more to being a Jounin than just being good at fighting.
All of them are leaders that could lead genin and chunin in missions and have a high success rate

I don't know...
Probably some arbitrary guidelines in term of abilities in different áreas, since guys like Ebisu and Anko are only Especial Jonin since they are really good in only one category...

Success is a variable term.

I highly doubt Konoha Jonin are leading assassination and inflatration into other nation missions. Several characters over the course of Naruto point out Konoha ninja's squeamishness when it comes to dealing out lethal force. Something Kumo, Kiri and Tscuhi ninjas seemingly have no problem with.

Well I don't think you really need to be all powerful to still be strong or worthy of being a Jonin.

Compared to most ninjas they probably are better than them. just my opinion though.

It was mention that they are recommended. They are also said to be highly skill in all areas: Ninjutsu, Genjutsu, and Taijutsu, well experienced, and posses up to two nature affinities.

You do know Asuma was one of the 12 guardian ninja assigned to guard the Fire Daimyo. Kurenai was konoha's best non-uchiha genjutsu user. Shizune is tsunade's personal assistant, one of konoha's only kunoichi to master medical ninjutsu. Anko was orochimaru's student. Yamato is the only one to use mokuton aside hashirama. Ibiki was Jiraiya's intel trustee in konoha, konoha's best interrogation officer. You saw Inoichi's and shukaku's contribution to the war. I can't even begin to mention chouza's contribution; assisted chouji in battling the gedo, held the water side with darui against the enemy during the war. The rest haven't shown anything special. But considering kakashi became jonin when he was 11, I'm sure all these guys at their level in part 1 would neg him.
What it takes to be a jonin? complete tough missions, which they all did.

I heard about the two nature affinities (allegedly from Asuma but I couldn't find the page).

Looking at the list I posted and when you think about how strong jonin from other villages are, it seems like Leaf Jonin are promoted and then stop advancing their skills. Again, with Guy, Kakashi and Hiashi being exceptions. Admittedly we don't really see Kakashi push himself to reach new levels of power. His laid back attitude implies he's secure with the level he's at. While Guy is never satisfied and is an all around master of taijutsu and bujutsu.

Can you name as many jonin from their villages though?

More Leaf jonin are more known throughout nations than the others as well

Becuse Jounin is the highest ranking level. The next step is Kage.

But not all Jonin are equal.

For example

If Asuma was set up to fight Darui, could Asuma win? I don't think so.

If it was Kurenai who was given the Land of Waves Mission and she had to fight Zabuza, could she win? No

If Yamato and Akatscuchi had a no holds bar throw-down, would Yamato win? I don't think so.

We already know Kabuto can take Shizune.

What if Anko was tasked with fighting Kurotsuchi?

Put the dad version of the Ino-Shika-Cho against Killer Bee (at Bee vs Taka fight) and it's a slaughter.

These are just the jonins of other villages vs the Leaf Jonin. You do see a disparity in their abilities. I didn't bring up any Akatsuki members, because they are so specialized and exceptional, but they would stomp the Leaf Jonins too. Add in people like the Gold and Silver Brothers and the 7 Swordsman of the Mist or the Jins killed by the Akatsuki, and the limitations of Leaf Jonin become more and more apparent.

Now, I'm not saying they all need to be distinct and powerful, but looking at the names of the Jonins we know, most are nothing to speak of. Better at beating up chunins and jonins weaker than themselves, than trading blows with the best from other villages.

You can't compare them to other villages.

Well actually you can. The Ninja World is driven by commerce and competition. People high ninja from all villages for different things. It's why the Chunin Exams final tournament is a public event. So Daimyos, Kage, lords, nobles and other potential buyers can see the skills of potential ninjas on display. You will also notice that Kumo, Kiri and Iwa ninjas do not attend the Chunin Exams. All three of them are arguably the most militant of the 5 Great Nations, and presumably, they don't need to publicity to sell their ninjas quality.
