I think mastery of the rinnegan would allow someone to tell the difference between clones and the original as seen with madara. He could easily distinguish between naruto's clones and the original. But that could just be a special ability for madara. Also if the rinnegan is capable of telling limbo clones apart from the original then it isn't farfetched to say that an original user of the rinnegan should tell between clones and original

It was never stated that that power was exclusive to madara...He got fooled by hashirama's wood clone at VOTE yet he claims he can tell the difference. We can only assume that ability is granted by the rinnegan since he first showed that ability AFTER awakening the rinnegan. Since madara was the first original rinnegan user aside rikudou, we can only assume this also. But also this might be false because Kaguya couldn't tell the difference with naruto, but Hagoromo explicitly said Kaguya has the byakugan and sharingan, and not the rinnegan. So we can say she doesn't possess this ability. Also until sasuke uses this skill, I guess we can look at it either way

Madara can tell the differwnce between wood clones, his sharingan was deactivated when he got fooled. Its mangafact sasuke can tell the difference between shadow clones as well.

Wrong, when naruto was fighting neji he was not standing at the back it was his clone. It funny because I just rewatched their fight yesterday. Sharingan can see through clones.
