Who is viz?

I honestly don't understand a lot of the anime/manga world.

I know that naruto anime is done by viz, but what is viz's relationship to shonen jump?

Here's why i ask. I know that the dbz dub and ALL dbz media is done through funimation (just like NARUTO's us release is done through viz). However when i bought a dragonball chapter, I had to do it through VIZ.

I thought thats what shonen jump was though. I actually went to the shonen jump website but i got like, linked to make a viz account and thats what the chapter is bound to.


So... Funimation does dbz anime, viz does its manga? then who the fúck is shonen jump.

I guess i wouldn't be as confused if it were just "funi does anime, shonen does manga" but with viz in the mix, i'm just really confused what vis and shonen's relation ship is

VIZ media publishes the manga from Shonen Jump, Dragon Ball is a Shonnen. VIZ media is the American publisher while the Japanese one is JC

So shonen just is the magazine that puts out that manga while their publisher is "jc/viz" respectively?

That makes sense, but then if they're just shonens us publisher, why do they do the naruto anime? Dbz uses funimation instead

Think of it this way.

Shonen Jump is the Brand like Marvel.

Viz is the Distributor like Diomond comics ( Which has rights to DC,Marvel, and IDW comics)

And Naruto is the series like The Amazing Spiderman.

I rather dislike viz. Their dubs aren't stellar, they are so far behind japan, and they can't keep their shows on tv. Plus they don't even do that many shows. If it weren't for them having manga, i'd call funi >>>>>>>>> viz. For now, its only funi >>> viz

Shonen Jump actually works with the author of the manga to create it with editors and what not. The chapters are showcased in the Shonen Jump magazines.

VIZ and Funimation are distributors.
